They were told that the two-lane stretch of A40 between East Acton and Wales Farm Road was a deliberate bottleneck introduced by Ken Livingston when the original road improvement plans were cancelled, that the bottleneck applied to everyone including emergency services full time, and any reduction to one lane over that stretch always results in total gridlock. Total gridlock also applies to emergency services, including ambulances trying to reach hospitals. The three-lane section on the London side of East Acton will still be reduced to two, for the longer hours, but the poor Olympics VIPs will have to suffer the two-lane stretch with everyone else. I live just west of Gypsy Corner, and have often given up all hopes of driving anywhere for a few hours when there is the slightest problem creating total gridlock over the entire area. Many alternative routes that existed when I was young have been labelled Rat Runs and blocked, so there are very few alternatives,
