Anyone had problems with British Gas???

We have their HomeCare 400 cover (you know the one which they advertise as giving 'peace of mind')???Their 'blog' said for Plumbing & Drainage Care 'Parts & Labour included' (Up to £1000 for drains). They called 4 times regarding an Interceptor Cap (which is in the inspection manhole just inside our property). The first 3 callers just pushed the Ingterceptor Cap back in place but the last person quoted £75 to fix a new one.We rang British Gas, the first person said she doesn't think we have to pay, I was transferred to another department who had no idea, and finally through to Dyno-Rod who said we would have to pay.In the meantime the fitter asked my husband to sign a form giving details of our Insurers, which he reluctantly did. He aslo asked whether anyone had put a camera down into the drain, we said no. He then did this procedure and said he found defects and encrustation in the underground pipes. This was going under the pavement outside our house. The fitter said he fitted a new Interceptor Cap and that we would receive some correspondence regarding his visit.Sure enough we did - a whopping great estimate of £1,304.40 for carryng out the investigation, fitting the new Interceptor Cap and includng costs for remedial work!We are pensioners and can you imagine the shock we had at receiving this letter?  I have written to complain to British Gas. We pay these people over £400 per year and were under the impression that this covered us - and as they say - for 'peace of mind' and as far as I am concerned this is one of the worst companies on the planet! They mentioned that the drain runs are 'non-shared' which is more or less what we thought (apart from the neighbours sink which is shared) but yesterday my neighbour said that actually his sewage drains for a large family actually go under our front garden and run into the same drain! We had absolutely no idea! Please has anyone come across this situation before? Any advice would be most welcome. I am certainly going to challenge this to the bitter end and I will then cancel British Gas because they have caused us nothing but trouble for years.Thankfully we no longer use them for our Gas & Electricity supply!
