Julian Bell to succeed Vivendra Sharma as Ealing MP

The word is out that Julian Bell, our Council Leader and part-time researcher for Ealing MP Vivendra Sharma is to step into Sharma's shoes come the next election. The question now is why Sharma is making way for Bell, any ideas?

There is no way that decision has been made this early, and I doubt it will be Cllr Bell. Lots of manouvering has to take place and it won't be pretty. The Labour party in Acton didn't want Cllr Bell, why would the Labour party in Southall want him. It's not Sharmas decision either.

Perhaps the boundaries commission commission should re-zone Ealing. Clearly the Ealing Southall constituency is a joke. Perhaps Southall Hayes would be better? Then South Ealing and North Ealing and Southall becomes a London Borough?

Steve Pound is exactly what Labour need for Southall. Broad, not a political slimeball, charismatic and intelligent in a widely communicable way.Sadly, Not many of those like him to the Pound though!

To be honest, although a Tory voter, all I want is an MP that represents the whole constituency. I would welcome Steve Pound as Ealing Southall's MP with open arms. A decent bloke who 'covers the ground' unlike the 'vested interest' brigade that have represented Ealing Southall for the last twenty plus years.

Nigel, I too would like be in a Tory area, but I know nothing about the history or opinions of the area, so from what I read I think I may have to wait a rather long time.

It is because they represent the old guard and the old order. We must hope that younger british people of asian heritage will see the importance of this and look to be more engaged with the whole borough. though the worry would be that clr anand might think that describes her. given her treatment of albert dane users that would be a horrifying thought. The position of an mp requires some kind of moral integrity. for me that is why Steve Pound gets re-elected when the country goes against Labour. We need more MP's who take a broader view. The problem is that to become an MP you need to ingratiate yourself with the system and the system will ensure that the youthfull energy will be eliminated by the time you get into power.

I would simply like an MP who can remember that his or her constituency extends east of the Iron Bridge.For far too long the people of souuth Hanwell have tolerated the invisibility of their MP. The last three have been the 'imperfect combination' useless and invisible.Jason would make a cracking MP but the chnaces of a Tory MP in Southall are about as likely as a shop opening selling rocking horse manure.

Useless like the last 3 MPs for Southall and Ealing Southall. Even though the last two (RIP) were both very nice people they were not terribly effective MPs.Southall needs a good MP who can bridge the differences in it's diversity and steer clear of the corruption that's dogged the place for such a long time.That's going to take a thick skinned and diligent candidate. On the Labour side, can't think of anyone able enough.This is the problem with 'safe seats' . You just don't get the right kind of candidates. Julian Bell is far from proven so far. And pales in comparision to the previous council leader who had a great ability to listen and comprehend regardless of ones political allegience.A good Labour candidate will have to be mature enough to rise above the party tittle tattle and represent as even handedly as possible the best interests of the locals.But as tories would go  the much missed Jason Stacey would be a fine MP for Southall who would be a genuine asset for its residents. Highly unlikely as well though.
