Parareets.

The Parakeets are adapting to to the British climate, their numbers are increasing. There is a garden nearby where they are actively encouraged to the extent that they are accustomed to overnight roosting. They are relatively quiet after dusk. I would be very disappointed if they were threatened with a mass cull. How can the government justify funding such a project?

I understand that ultra-geen Conservative Councillor Nigel Sumner is going to suggest that Ealing Council sets up a Bureau of Parakeet Affairs to handle this crises along with a borough-wide referendum of "First on the Post" issues for different types of birds.

About time they did something. These birds will eventually over-run the native breeds. How many sparrows do you see nowadays? 20 years ago they were all around.

I think the ones causing a problem are different from the "normal" (entirely green) ones around Ealing and surrounds.  It is the Monk Parakeet (green and grey)that is on the hit list, but there aren't that many of them so the plan to shoot is only a last resort.

We have up to 17 visit the bird feeder and they happily feed with the thrushes,blackbirds, sparrows, Blue tits, woodpecker chaffinches and goldfinches, wood pigeons and an extremely dexterious squirrell!The only troublesome birds are the magpies which when around, dominate all the others.I think the problem is a percieved one from observations based on public spaces and not urban residential spaces.
