New home for household goods.

Walking through West Ealing Broadway this morning, I noticed that the British Heart Foundation, who have a small shop there already, are opening a big new one to sell furniture and electrical goods from May 3rd. They will collect and can be contacted on 0844 4994186 or bhf.org.uk/collection.A very good cause apart from a good way to get rid of old but still usable household goods.

Looked in this morning. Lots of analogue tellies for 25 quid but also Freeview boxes for a fiver and DVD players/VHS recorders for a tenner. Huge place, masses of furniture, quite busy.

Excellent to see BHF becoming more popular. I visit many charity shops and BHF have been by far the most impressive. Very well laid out and good prices. I certainly plan on visiting this new one to show my support.Mark

Companies working for commercial gain are a huge problem to charities. British Heart Foundation reckon that they have seen a 25% drop in donations due to commercial operators costing them £3 million in lost donations. As little as 5 percent can go to the charity via a third party collection.However, don't feel too sorry for BHF: they have an annual income of almost £200million and a lot of it is tied up in investments, equities and bonds. Finally, think carefully what you donate to a charity shop. If it is rubbish then the shop has to dispose it at a cost which could do more harm than good to your donations.
