Online survey by Ealing Council about Ealing Bdy station

I was handed a leaflet this morning at Ealing Broadway station requesting me to complete a short online survey at http://www.ealingbroadwaytravelsurvey.co.ukIt only takes a couple of minutes to complete, and seems (IMHO) to be directed at encouraging more cycling to Ealing Broadway station.

I just did the survey - not particularly well written, and requires you to accept ALL cookies (not just from the website) in order to work...Also, there was one question, where you have to put in, in order, what things need to be addressed to persuade you to cycle to the station - only one of the choices had any relevance to me (secure cycle parking), but I still had to rank the rest before it would let me continue.Having had a bike stolen from near the station, although supposedly securely locked, it certainly needs some better facilities. I sometimes cycle on a Brompton (folder - so can bring it on the tube), and it would be so much nicer to be able to push it up a ramp than carry it to/from the trains.

I can't see any land ever being taken out of Haven Green. How on earth that mini-sub station got built is beyond me.Members of the Ealing Cycling Campaign and Ealing Bike Hub presented some ideas to the consultants that have triggered the survey. You can already park outside the station for as long as you like, I often see bikes chained to the railings although it would not be my first choice.I take your point about bike theft and vandals, although how this happens with such a constant flow of taxis and buses is a mystery.

I think I am going to make myself really unpopular but I was looking at the transport policy stuff in the Ealing Planning portal recently. There are a great number of options put together in a consultants report.I agree that bike parking facilities are hopeless at Ealing Broadway. Long ago I gave up parking a bike there myself due to the ongoing vandalism.I know and like Haven Green very much. However the travel facilities have become so appalling, and with the population growing as it is, and whenever the new offices eventually get occupied in the Uxbridge Road which undoubtedly they will in time, we just have to see something radical happen to travel to and from the station.So I regret that I think the best option for me is to take a chunk of land out of Haven Green in front of the station and give it over to parking up more buses. At the same time a safer bike park could be constructed. Also what is the need for that hut by the taxi rank? In the public interest I think the Council should work towards and achieving reclaiming the ability to park for 5 minutes in front of the station.

Very interesting. As a cyclist, I hardly ever use the station so I didnt know about this.Back in September there was a protest outside the station organised by the Ealing Cycling Campaign. It was picked up by the press: you may remember reading about this on this website or in the Ealing Gazette. Angie Bray was in attendance to give her backing to the campaign.Better access is clearly needed to the platforms not just for cyclists, but also for passengers in wheelchairs,those with mobility problems, pushchairs and anyone carrying heavy luggage.  Much more secure cycle parking is also needed outside the station as theft is one of the biggest deterents to cycling and recently there has been a large number of stolen bikes from outside the station.
