Phone Line Dead - Roadworks to blame?

Last night I got home and my phone line is dead.I live in Westfield Road and Sydney road is being resurfaced..is there a connection?Is anyone elses phone line dead?

If the cables were badly damaged, and roadworks could be to blame, then they would probably need to repair or replace the ducts first, then pull the new cables through, possibly adding  extra pairs and/or fibre, then reconnect and test a very large number of pairs. They may have found other, older, damage along the run. Was the damage confirmed to have been due to the roadworks? A couple of years ago there was a spate of deliberate damage to cables.

10 days and line still dead. I was told yesterday that BT expected to have this resolved today but it hasnt happened.

I think the first question to ask is not about roadworks, but about whether lengths of copper wire were stolen.This is a problem which is getting more common and the trouble is partly caused by the road and pavement access points not being adequately protected.So if you see some apparent works going on you may wish to note down vehicle numbers and/or speak to people working on telephone installations.

I note that the BT spokesman says that 900 properties were impacted. People I have talked to said it was nearer 3,000. My line was down Tuesday Morning and last night BT told me not to expect resumption of service before Wednesday 26.

Im in Perivale....today is my 4th day without phone or internet. Good old BT. You'd think we were in the middle of the countryside!

I live in Vallis Way near Trailfinders. My phone went down on Monday morning and I am being advise that it will not be back until next Monday. Everyone I have talked to round here is also without phone & broadband. Apparently they have had to replace a length of cable.

My broadband internet was working fine Tuesday morning but in the afternoon was dead. I unplugged the router, rebooted it and the laptop but nothing. Then  checked the phone and found that was dead too. Called Sky and they said they would pass the fault on to BT as they said there was a problem at the exchange. 2 days later still no phone or internet. I know how to go to a friend to access email and log on.

Funnily enough, my phone line went dead mid-call about 9.15 Sunday evening - altho even more strangely, it came back half an hour later.  I didn't check my broadband, though (with Virgin).

Most people lose their broadband when they lose their landline. You will still be threatened with a huge bill for a call out, as happened to my sister when the local area roadside cabinet was totally removed by a road traffic accident.
