refuse collection

Has anyone had their black bags, food boxes or green boxes collected today?  I phoned the council to ask if the refuse would be picked up today and was told the side roads were too slippery. I told the lady the white bags containing plastics were emptied, the truck had no problems with the roads and yesterday (Sunday) the gritters came down our little close and gritted the pavements (not the road!!)I was told that they would therefore be collected today. Still nothing.

We went into work every day of the snow and ice and it took longer to do anything/get anywhere.  It would be the same for the guys collecting who have to do everything within a time limit in order to finish a round - we don't have a vacuuming system for waste!  I was really pleased that the lorries didn't try and negotiate our small street!I decided that rather than have to spend time on finding out when and if they were coming I just wouldn't put anything out (after all that saves having to retrieve food waste bin and green box).  Plastics bag I only ever put out when full anyway (although I would have preferred to put it out before Christmas).It is a good time to reflect on how much waste you are making and whether you could/should do anything differently!  Mrs Green at www.zerowaste.com put out one dustbinful of residual waste last year! We are lucky in Ealing to have recycling banks as well as a kerbside collection.  Do you know where these are?I am amazed at the number of people who take their car to do the shopping but wouldn't consider taking any recycling with them.  If you shop at a supermarket you will be bringing more packaging back with you than if you shop at your local butcher, baker and greengrocer.  Take that packaging back to them! Let them dispose of it rather than burden your Council and fellow residents with the costs!

Didn't get chance to comment earlier in the day as I was't next to a computer, but have tweeted that we have been pushing to ensure all streets from Monday's backlog were cleared today - any backlogs from yesterday should be cleared by tomorrow and we should be up to speed by the end of the week.  Just in time for Fr Christmas to leave a little bag of presents on everyone's doorsteps.If however, anyone has yet to have their rubbish collected then please call the council's Environmental Services number on 020 8825 6000 or e-mail me on bassam.mahfouz@ealing.gov.uk with your details so that I can get this actioned immediately!Cllr Bassam MahfouzLabour Cabinet Member for Transport & Environmenthttp://www.twitter.com/BassamMahfouz

It's garbage isn't it?  There is no excuse now for the Council not to send the lorries round to clear the backlog.  The roads are clear.

Still no collection today. As for the excuse from the council, how can two  lorries get down my road and the close, but the others can't? Also foxes out sniffing the bags, they must be very hungry at the moment, luckily I have not got food in mine.

Hi allSee latest info from Council:Refuse and recycling collections are taking place on normal scheduled collection days this week. We are doing our best to catch up with any collections we have missed due to the weather conditions. Residents should leave their refuse and recycling in the usual place for collection but please be aware that there are still some roads that are inaccessible to collection vehicles.We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.Annemarie

In Northfields we had a recycling lorry drive down our street. It was a shame it didn't actually stop and collect anything

In South Ealing we had the recycling collected but not the black bags.  If the recycling lorry could get down the road then so could the dustbin lorry so it seems to have been completely random who got what collected in my view.
