shops opening

Whereas Ealing Broadway's shops appear to be in terminal decline, things along Pitshanger Lane appear a little bighter. Brenda's Pet Boutique & Harrison's Wine & Cheese shop have opened. Navarro's Wine Shop & Explore Learning tutorial centre are about to open ( when the Council finally gets it's act together) and a new Deli wants to move in ( when the threat from Tesco is finally beaten). Not all doom & gloom.

Hello Alan- do you really think that Tesco will play second fiddle to anyone?- Their reputation does not suggest this!I think that they are planning to dominate shopping patterns everywhere. Retail therapy is something that a lot of people enjoy. Unfortunately Tesco Metro does not represent value for money or choice.

Regarding the high quality shops that have survived, presumably good value for money, that might indicate that lower quality shops, that offer less value for money will fail. Is this so bad? In the years to come Tesco might will be playing second or third fiddle to other retailers.

Both Parkers & Richadsons were both badly hit when Tesco opened. Fotunately, both were very high quality stores & have survived. Where on earth can one buy decent Fruit & Veg on Northfield Avenue.And do i have to mention The HUGE delivey lorries? Pitshanger Lane has problems with small delivery lorries, let alone these pantechnicons that arrive at all hours on Northfield avenue.

"you only have to look at Northfield Avenue"  ??? The Avenue still boasts plenty of independent retailers as well as restaurants, and Tesco Metro also has a place. We can do all our weekly food shopping on Northfields Ave, with the pleasant bonus of coffee shop stops and decent lunch venues.

Besides small  shops being hit by a Tesco ( you only have to look at Northfield Avenue )a public meeting was called by the PCA, on the prospect of Tesco moving on to the Lane. 235 people attended, 234 were against tesco. I think that most people accept that the Lane is a pleasant place to shop because of its range of small shops. If one wants chain stores it is very easy to pop into Ealing Broadway.Also, the Co-op has an ethical policy to its suppliers, can the same be said of Tesco?

..."a Tesco on the Lane, to the detriment of the rest"...Why would a Tesco branch be detrimental? There is already a Co-op branch.I would agree another multiple might well be detrimental to the profits of other emporia but that's a risk in retailing. If individuals migrate from those shops to Tesco then that's free choice.

i think that the bigger picture should be considered here-notwithstanding Explore Learning's faults. If the Lane does not get Explore Leaning, it will get a Tesco Metro, they have made several offers for the site. Do we REALLY nees a Tesco on the Lane, to the detriment of the rest of the shops & the Community as a whole?

As with any decent institution in London, especially involved in Education, they should be paying AT LEAST the London Living Wage and not anywhere near minimum wage.A centre like this will need good publicity to get off the ground and so will not appreciate the wider community being acutely aware if they are not following best practice.

Did you know that Explore do not employ qualified teachers and only pay their teaching staff staff minimum wage? I was really shocked.
