Democratic Process - debate or walk out?
This week the GLA had its meeting at City Hall and an engaging agenda was planned which included discussion on asylum, ticket offices and a suspected motion about Crown estates. The meeting was however cut short as the meeting became inquorate by the total walk out of 11 Conservative Assembly members. This is not the first time such a practice has happened.Obviously they had no chance to initiate their own debate on Crown estates in the process. Is this acceptable? Surely we elected our representatives in the expectation they would debate the matters in hand and assumed they would have the skills to make their points in our wider interest. By refusing to engage, they have lost the confidence we have in due process. As a total walk out this may include our own Ealing and Hillingdon AM, unless he was not at the meeting at all. These members are surely bringing local government into disrepute.
