Attempted killing in Bond Street W5

The article in the Newsletter today makes disturbing reading. That the victim was brutally assaulted and left for dead by the assailant suggests to me the punishment of just over 4 years imprisonment is totally inadequate for a case of intended murder, as that is what we are dealing with. Why should the intending murderer be let off so leniently, especially bearing in mind he will probably spend half his term in prison. His behaviour  suggests to me he is such a danger to the public that he should be there longtime.

"Judges that give out these lienient scentences live on another planet"These what?Judges sentence according to guidelines set down by government, a fact no one appears to have the faintest idea about.  Look up the Sentencing Council, which comprises both judges, policemen and indeed the DPP.Actually, sentences are quite often way harsher today than they used to be (look up what you got for murder in the old days if you avoided the rope), having been revised upwards because the public keeps kidding itself that they're 'too lenient'.  How else can you explain a) falling crime and b) prisons bursting at the seams.

Re If he had killed him he would have got manslaughter               xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx      You may well be right Marie, but in my book, had he actually killed  the innocent victim, he would have been guilty of murder, so as he did leave the victim for dead, I feel he should have been charged and tried for attempted murder at least. As you say, sentences dished out by some Judges are absurd to say the least and I wish they did really live on another planet!. They send totally the wrong signal.

If he had killed him he would have got manslaughter and only got a couple more years anyway. Off course he'll still be dangerous when he gets out, probabley even more so. Judges that give out these lienient scentences live on another planet.
