Forum Topic

500 server Error

Is anyone else getting a similar message displayed when trying to post something on the forum?This has happened a few times recently and it is rather annoying to have typed an article and then find it cannot be posted.Any ideas?

The forums are great but you are using virtually antique forum software!is that because of server restructions?Most forums use phpbb bulletin board these days and there are plenty of free ones floating around.Here's one I created for my brothers bar in Cyprus as a guest book;http://rugbyarms.forumakers.com/Much easier to read threads.

I managed to log on earlier when I went to Ealing Toaday home page, let's try it again.....

I got a 500 server error when I went back to Forum after getting the Ealing Today home page up after logging out, the forum link was the one where it invites comment.Luckily I now paste my text elsewhere in case and as you can see I got back in by going back to an email advice and then internal Forum home to get the subject

"each week we receive the latest version of the Ealing Forum, Acton Forum or whatever on Internet Explorer as an email."I wasn't aware that an emailed weekly forum summary was an option.  I get the ChiswickW4.com weekly newsletter, but it doesn't have anything about the forum except for one link to it.  Perhaps that's what you're referring to.Anyway, it would be worth following Susan Kelly's advice to see if it makes any difference.

Richard, each week we receive the latest version of the Ealing Forum, Acton Forum or whatever on Internet Explorer as an email.It is this email that I click on to, read all the topics and as stated before, highlight the subject I wish to comment on, reply to that topic and then submit.I do not get all new posts sent as emails. I just receive an email to show that someone else has also replied to that topic.This is how I have always gone on to the forum, without having problems like this.

Jean, try going to the Home page Ealingtoday.co.uk and clicking through to the forum from there. That might solve your problem since no one else is having it.

I have the same problem quite often and now do as Tony says which is if it fails, I go back and copy and paste to a pending file I keep.In process, you might have had the email which updates you to activity, go to the site through that, see the message and hit the reply buttonMaybe there is something in that for the techies but the failures do not seem logical

Re  Do you mean that you get all new posts sent as emails?          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxthere is the facility of " E MAIL notification " whereby you are told re a new post , not the post itself but  an advice one has been made on the Forum

"All I do is go to my inbox, click on to, say, Ealing Forum, then after reading the topics highlight the topic, reply and then submit."Do you mean that you get all new posts sent as emails?  If so, that could be significant, as I doubt if many posters do it that way.  Most of us go to the Ealing site directly using our browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, or whatever).

Richard,All I do is go to my inbox, click on to, say, Ealing Forum, then after reading the topics highlight the topic, reply and then submit.This is the way I have always gone on to the forum. I haven't had any problems before so can't understand what is happening now.It is a hit and miss affair if my message goes on to the forum.I don't really know how to cut and paste, I did try to do it but without any luck!

"All I did was highlight a topic on the forum, ..."But how did you get to the forum?  Do you have a bookmark/favorite or what?I haven't had an error 500 for several weeks, so it sounds as if you may be doing something different to the rest of us.

Annemarie,All I did was highlight a topic on the forum, clicked on reply, typed my message, pressed submit and then I got the error 500 message!Sorry I am not into all the technical stuff!It is a rather hit and miss affair if my message ends up on the forum. Hope this one gets there!

Re  then had to delete because I had no idea what to do next!              xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx      may I suggest you take a copy ( scroll paste/copy ) of any message you draft before you attempt to post it so IF something goes wrong in that process, you still have the fruits of your hard labour to repost when possible. I learned that  the hard way.

Thanks Annemarie,Honestly I have been going around in circles trying to post something after typing it all out - then had to delete because I had no idea what to do next!I called my husband but he could not figure out a way to get around the 500 server error either!Of course I shall continue to post, where would we be with the local forums?
