A new location for Skatepark

If the skate park is not to be in Elthorne, what about one of the plain parts of Walpole Park?When we were last in Sofia, Bulgaria, there was a prominent skate park well used on the edge of a park close to the main boulevard.  It was good to see it in use and it was open enough so that unwanted behaviour was less likely

There is sufficient space at Gurnell. This location will serve many more residents of our borough than the site at Elthorne.

Are you talking about the fields at Gurnell? I hope the new skate park doesn't take away any of the football pitches there. what was the reason for not having it at Eltorn? Where  there's lots of unused space.

Wouldn't the monies, for consultation and construction, be better spent on levelling and draining the existing sports fields?

The main site of Ealing Today now reveals that the Council is favouring Gurnell Leisure site, maybe this will even be a package of other enhancements.Presumably there now has to be a fresh public consultation on location affecting Argyle Road, Avalon Road area, Copley Close, Cuckoo Estate and so on

Re: "You can use radio controlled cars/planes etc in any open space."R/C cars yes. Aircraft no. I would hazard a guess and say that there are more R/C cars and aircraft in Ealing than skateboards. Perhaps that should be a question on the 2011 Census return.

Taken this long for me to reply because I've been at work and through the taxes I pay and the money I give Ealing council via comumity charge, I think some of it should be spent on the youth providing them with places to enjoy themselves exercise etc. The very young have playgrounds whats wrong with a skate park for the slghtly older kids and adults to? If thats what they want to do why not provide them with facilities, you're so selfish, it's not all about what you want. They have just taken away the free swimming in ealing for under 16yr olds.You can use radio controlled cars/planes etc in any open space.  As for Mark with the rose bush fetish. You carry on sitting amongst your rose bushes sniffing, licking and whatever else you do with them and leave everyone else alone to enjoy and have fun the way they wish, even if it is skateboarding!

On a completely different note, the story on Ealing Today says the skate park is now beng considered for Gurnell as the favoured location but the Gazette says it's thought to be Central Ealing.  Anyone know which is correct.

If any money were to be spent on Walpole Park (that Politically Incorrect place that Labor councillors hate) I would suggest:*Replacing the broken and removed playground equipment.*Refurbish the little dell with the stream.*Refurbish the rose garden.*Restart the little "zoo" that used to be there.All far better use than a skateboard park: a utilitarian approach; what benefits the most most effectively. If we cannot maintain and support what assets we have why are we building more unmaintainable assets (for hoodies?)?

...Roses can also provide edible supplies to a family. Once roses have bloomed, they produce hips. Rose hips are great for using in teas, jellies and even syrups. Collecting the rose hips can provide a family with a delicious treat. Alternatively, leaving the rose hips on the plant can provide food for birds and deer in the winter.So suck on that!

Why do we need a skate park anyway?If I choose to buy a crossbow I don't expect the Council to set aside land for me to practise my sniper skills, or worse, because of the noise, if I were to buy a petrol engined radio-controlled model aircraft...I assume the Council will charge for the use of a skatepark facility to cover the cost of maintenance, graffiti removal, and a safety/first aid attendant.

That is a shame. Rose bushes are rather beautiful when in flower, they have beautiful coloured flowers, and they smell wonderful. I think that you will find that rose bushes fit in with relaxation, rather than with "kicks".

I like the idea of Gurnell.  It fits in with other sports activities and encourages kids to stay healthy and active.  I was at a park in St Albans today and saw 2 guys skateboarding (badly!) who were in their 20's. So it's not just teenagers with hoods....

You sound like right miserable old goat! Why do you think that everyone that skate boards are law breaking hoodies? lots of children, of all ages, and teenagers  get a lot of pleasure, and exercise skate boarding, far healthier and enjoyable than looking at rose bushes. Lots of 10yr olds skate and have never heard of illict substances, stop stereotyping, it just shows ignorance. You should try thinking what would be good for young people, instead of yourself.

Oh No! Please, not in Walpole Park. Don't give the council any excuses to destroy more rose bushes. I like the idea of Gurnell Leisure Centre it somehow seems appropriate for the idea: it is close to the A40 which means that after some skateboarding the hoodies can go and throw their empty alcopop bottles at passing lorries rather than inflicting them on joggers, dog-walkers, cyclists and the like. There are also plenty of subways, etc. for hoodie-like activities around illicit substances and the like. We definitely don't need more agro in central Ealing!
