Define a 'multi racial' society? There is only one race. The Human race. We could be defined by our Colour, Culture, Nationality and Religion. Religion.., is a point of view, a personal chosen belief.Nationality, relates to the place we were born, stated on our passports.Culture, the way we choose to live our lives, influenced by many things, a way of life and values in an area/place.Colour, self explanitory, we are all diferent colours but our colour does not link us to any of the above, not all white people have the same cultures, nationalities or religions, neither do black people. Asians etc. There is colour predjudice, religious predjudice, cultural predjudice and predjudice against nationalities. None worse than the other. I believe you need to be more specific than to blanket everything under this over used and non discriptive 'racial' or 'racist' word.Robin, you may be right in saying that this other person, you wont name, is culturaly, and religiously predjudice, but maybe you need to look at why people, not just him/her feel this way. Maybe they have a point, maybe they feel that thier culture is being eroded? You are being niave if you dont realise some people do have predjudice towards the british culture, and religion. Infact two years ago in my local school it was suggested that the christmas fate was changed to winter fate so as to be more inclusive. There was alot of anger about this and the idea was dropped. Why do you never see these things? I think if someone believes that thier culture is not being respected by other cultures then they have a right to say so without being labled 'racist' by you. British people, irrespective of colour want to keep thier culture, if they dont stand up for it they be left with no 'core' culture. Maybe you think thats not a bad thing? I disagree, I have no predjudice against other cultures but i wish to be allowed to keep a Britsh culture in Britan respected and followed by everyone that chooses to live here, as i would bend to any culture depending where i lived. I am first generation imigrant. I'm not a daily mail fan and i'm quite happy for all people to celebrate thier religious festivals. If one nationality had been asked for thier background stories it would have been accepted, but to pick out 4 nationalities and ignore other immigrants has probably, and rightly so, been seen as predjudice in many ways.  What and where is westside radio anyway? Who do they target as listeners? I've never heard of them.

I think what you're doing is great.Clearly, you cannot include every group in this project - but if it's repeated in the future perhaps you will be able to vary the content.Sadly, as you can see from this thread, there are some who simply do not like to be reminded that we live in a multi-racial society. One of those who has chosen to criticise your initiative has previously admitted to being an avid reader of the Daily Mail. With a few honourable exceptions, that rag's coverage of race relations issues has been designed to ferment ill-feeling towards minority religions and minority ethnic groups.Sadly, its readers tend to swallow whole what they read in the Daily Mail (even when much of its reporting has no basis in fact). The poster I am referring to (who shall remain nameless) recently made the following comment - proof positive that the Mail's propoganda almost invariably poisons the minds of those who read it...------"This is (or was) a predominately Christian country but unfortunately all our dearly held values are being eroded with what one could only call "looney" organisations for pandering to the minority in case they feel upset at the very mention of the word "CHRISTMAS"!  So now they want to call it "Winterval" and in some school children are informed that Christmas will not be celebrated, instead it appears to be a mishmash of everything jumbled in together! Now we have celebrations such as "Eid" "Ramadan" "Chinese New Year" and so on, which is all fine and dandy, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that these new ideas appears to be pushing Christianity on to a back burner for fear of upsetting other religions. Why can't each one celebrate their own religion in peace without having to worry about who they were going to upset! Why were some office workers told that they should not have lunch in case they upset their collegues who were fasting for Ramadan? How absurd! Where is the equality in this case?I sometimes wonder just who is in the minority nowadays when it is obvious that in some parts of our society people are treated with much more respect when they say they are "Muslim" than if you are an ordinary member of the public, I guess this is because those in authority fear the consequences of upsetting a Muslim in our society! Now I think that a sense of fair play has long ago gone out the window!  What has happened to our country, yes we have made people from every corner of the globe most welcome here but it would seem that this country has now changed beyond all recognition. There is no equality any more as far as I can see. The trouble is we would appear to be sleepwalking into a situation which will ultimately damage this society when people realise that our value have been eroded, those in authority are simply pandering to the wishes of the minority to the detriment of the majority."------As you can see, this posting conforms 100% to the agenda of the Daily Mail. I've never heard of anyone objecting to the word "Christmas" or demanding that it be called "Winterval" - and I live in a part of the borough (Southall) where Christians really are in a minority.Nor do I believe that workers have been told not to have lunch because their colleagues are fasting for Ramadan. As for the claim that people are treated with much more respect if they say they are Muslim, don't make me laugh! Being a Muslim is pretty much a guarantee that you are likely to be viewed with suspicion and hostility. As with its hate campaign against the Jews in the 1930s, the Daily Mail continues to prove that it can persuade its readers to believe the exact opposite of the truth.
