Everything is fine as long as it works first time.Virgin do not have a good reputation, most of their older feeds were apparently not fibre to the home but the cheapest co-ax cable they could get, and it is rotting in the ground. Almost all other local connections are supplied by BT wholesale, and they charge £200.00 each time they receive a fault report about something for which they are not responsible, so all retail suppliers are extremely reluctant to report them.I have a "totally unlimited" LLU connection through ukfsn.org provided through a contract with C&W but it suffers from unexplained occasional dropouts, although it does appear to be unlimited.Obviously the current maximum data rate depends on the distance from the exchange and the state of the cables, but BT are reported to be running out fibre to the local street cabinets as fast as they are able. (I have heard that the underground ducts were jammed full of thick copper cables at the Acton exchange, and new fibre connections should take up far less room, and provide a much higher data rate).
