Usual response to telephone cold callers is "you have rung St Bernard's Psychiatric Hospital - do you want admissions?". This and my total inability to understand anyone who doesn't speak RP on the phone, due to my deafness, gets rid of them.On two occasions earlier this year I've had doorstep salesmen. One was totally unintelligible and could/would not understand that I am deaf. The other purported to be from a fuel supplier of whom I am already a customer for several years, his records showed otherwise, and he seemed unaware of automatic price-capping.I would suggest that if one is cornered by one of these individual to ask for information through the post, and that one never buys any product offered on the the phone or doorstep without consulting the web for alternatives.Yes, there are worse people at the door than Jehovah's Witnesses.
