Credit Card Renewal Secuurity ???

Are the banks doing enough to ensure that our Credit Cards are secure?I say this because 2 new Credit Cards were pushed through my letter box one evening - no signature required.Then when I rang the bank I expected to have to answer questions to confirm my identity.  Instead, all I got was an automated message which just required me to tap in the card number, then my date of birth.I personally do not think this is sufficient to ensure that my card is secure.  It is so easy to find out someone's date of birth and items can be ordered over the telephone, or the internet without the card holder being present.I would be happy to collect a renewal card at my Bank and take along some form of ID. If more care was taken with Credit Cards perhaps there would be fewer cases of them being used fraudulently!What do others think?

I think they are immoral issuing the credit card cheques because only those unable to manage their current account properly would be tempted into greater difficulty.I also wonder, if the cheques had been intercepted as suggested by Philippa, what the bank would say to the unwitting account holder who said "I didn`t even know they existed"

And credit card cheques are treated as cash withdrawals, date as per cheque - handling fee, higher interest, last part of balance to be paid off.

I had a lot of trouble with the bank sending us cheque books.  I had specifically asked that they only be sent on request but they still kept on coming...  Luckily that seens to have stopped now.We were also being sent those credit card cheques without being asked if we wanted them.  I eventually discovered in the very very small print somewhere that you can ask not to get them.  Those said on them that they could not be cancelled once issued so if they had been stolen en route to us presumably we would have been none the wiser until there was a big problem.

I think most customers would not mind calling into their Bank to collect these cards personally, they can then be verified with the relevant ID.

My bank(RBS) offers customers the option of picking up credit/debit cards from their local branch. Handy and sensible for multi-tenant clients.

Philippa, I agree, I thought a signature on delivery would be required at the very least.The envelope containing 2 new cards was just dropped through the letter box.Banks are all too eager to blame the customer when a card is used fraudulently but they do not appear to take enough precautions when new cards are issued.

A lot of them seem to now be using a system whereby they are hand delivered and the date and time is noted. Or you then have to validate the card.  I hate it when the new card is sent ages in advance of the date it can be used because I invariably then forget all about it and subsequently have trouble when for some inconceivable reason my card is suddenly refused!
