Know Nuffing

The new parking regime is a bewilderment to me. I met a parking enforcement officer and asked nicely if he would explain it to me. In true Faulty Towers fashion he said that he knew ..... On the same walk I noted expensive new junction alignements Churchfield Road/Culmington Road and Elers Road/Churchfield Road/Lammas Park Gardens. I noted the majority of car drivers were unable to stay on their side of the road due to the diminutive lane size, the angle of the turn and new position of the curbs. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the transport designers were at best unable to read a scale ruler or at worse they knew......

God forbid that Ealing's traffic planning 'professionals" should accede to ideology and whims of councillors rather than adhere solely to cold hard facts when promulgating their designs.

I strongly suspect it's very much up to modern standards. If you can show it's not it would have to be redone.

The junction between Churchfield Road and Culmington Road is not fit for purpose. The whole thing is too tight..so tight it doesn't fit the cars it purports to contain. There is an arrogance/incompetence in the council department responsible. Most designers trial prototypes before they commit to building/constructing the "real" thing. No, Ealing dive straight in with concrete and in this case they got it wrong. I commend a quote from Francis Bacon 1561-1626; "If a man will begin with certainties he shall end in doubts but if he is content to begin with doubts he shall end in certainties".

Massive bell mouth. Who does that bring to mind, eh Paul?Changing junctions is all well and good if there’s a genuine need to do so. The council other to have produced any evidence that these junctions were particularly problematic or dangerous. But then as they make things up as they go along having any supporting surveys or evidence is probably pointless.Good to see that the latest polling reported on this website indicates that sone Labour councillors will lose their seats in May, including Dismal Driscoll. One can only hope.

It's perfectly acceptable to cross dashed lines if it is safe to do so, alight some do it out of laziness which isn't good. Some roads round here you've got to do this because of cars parked both sides means you've got to drive along the middle of it as you approach the junction.Meanwhile the removal if massively wide bell mouth hybrid continues apace across London and the uk.

My observations today were of cars starting from a stationary position. Nothing to do with speed or wrong gear. Even the smallest cars taking off slowly crossed the centre line when turning left. Food and Amazon delivery vans don't stand a chance as they are wider. My question is when were our thoughts, expertise and observations canvassed? After all we live here. In a manifesto?

...to add, wide bell mouth type junctions can be very intimidating for people to cross which is why we're seeing them being removed across london.They allow drivers to maintain a high speed when entering or leaving the junction, motorway slip road effectIt's a long way for people to walk/wheel across them (and double bad when considering the above behaviour from some drivers and riders)

They probably do this to keep their speed up/avoid changing down a gear etc.. they need to slow down.Also all corners need bollards to stop people driving on pavements.For example, the pavement on the south corner of mattock lane/northfield av junction is constantly getting smashed up because drivers cut across it.I reported it to council a while back (again) and it was relaid, and now it's as badly smashed up as it was before. All it needs is a bollard to stop this happening.And yeah, some cars are above maximum width and don't fit inside council parking bays for instance so drivers might have trouble navigating back streets in them, see it all the time.
