Local Elections

Anyone know where to find information about who is standing in which seats for the council elections? We've only had leaflets from Labour so far. Don't know which other parties are standing.

Can't speak for all their candidates, but I'm very impressed with Minni Dogra which is standing in Southall Green ward. I hope she is able to defeat Peter Mason.As an aside, it might help if we deleted the multiple Re:Re:... from the subject line when replying?

Yes, they're a declared Left Wing Party, as if we need another of those. 🤣And I'd stand for Ward Councillor if I was younger but I prefer a relaxed retirement ranting on here.  😁

There’s a new party to vote for. Ealing Community Independents. People have been crying out for a local party, representing residents, that has no political affiliations with any of the mainstream parties. Here’s your chance. I’m surprised Roscoe is not standing.

A fair voting system has been attempted by and eluded mathematicians for centuries.There are pros and cons for all of them but the Preferential system seems to me the nearest to fair/accurate that you'll get?First Past The Post is generally regarded as the absolute worst.

It's usually complete nonsense that a majority of voters vote for the  winners.For example,what % of those who voted in the last general election did not vote for Labour? 66%. The same will likely apply in local elections for the winning party.

For me, this is going to be the most interesting local council election in my living memory.I'll be beyond gobsmacked if Liebore stay in power, but it WILL prove one thing unequivocally if they do.        😉

The one Northfields councillor who has actually made a non canvassing appearance on Boston Road is moving/ being moved to Southall West. The other two including Councillor Driscoll must assume that they are a shoe in with no effort. Let's hope that that they are very wrong.

Sadly it does. People seem to lose the power of rational thought when it comes to elections. Either the track record of the party or the competence of the candidate is ignored. My own votes locally have been split across multiple parties for many years and are "earned" not from blind loyalty but by, at least, purporting to offer competence. A quality which appears to have totally evaded many red rosette wearers locally.

There are those who would vote for a donkey as long as the it wore a red rosette. Unfortunately they appear to be too hidebound in their ways to take off the blinkers. More of the same I fear.

There's no certainty replacements will be better than the current but the most powerful thing any electorate can do is get rid of politicians who don't deliver on promises; even if the new ones aren't any better, it put them on notice what fate is likely to befall them if they don't do anything.

So you will be voting for a different set of councillors altogether, right? How do you know that the new set would do a better job than what you currently have already? You are more concerned about a change of party rather than the quality of the candidates.

And, most importantly, be informed and VOTE WISELY.DO NOT simply vote for a "Party", this is Local Council Elections, look at the individual's track record or potential for being hard working, honest, reliable, trustworthy, diligent and doing a competent job on representing YOU and getting Council Stuff DONE, without wasting time & money on Virtue Signalling Flag Waving And Other Assorted Petty Political Lunacies.

The authoratitive candidate list won't be published until after 9 April  so you'll need to wait until then to find out the full list — some parties have already made announcements on a piecemeal basis but even they won't be 100% confirmed until the official list comes out.

I know which three Conservatives are standing in my area as they came round on Sunday. Just hoping one of them can be elected to stop the Labour lite mob making it a three way split!

The cut off date to register as a candidate isn't until the 27th of March so you will not see a final list of candidates much before they
