In SIXTH spot is…..

Ealing Town CentreThat’s in the Top Twenty of anti social behaviour areas of London according to the Met PoliceYou’re more likely to experience theft or street crime in Ealing than in Tottenham and only just behind Croydon Fair play to the Council although I’d say they’d be a bit disappointed and have their eyes on the top 3No idea on the deeper details but I assume this includes West Ealing to Ealing Broadway

Did I say you were wrong, Ben? You have your opinions, but they aren’t grounded in fact and when this is pointed out to you, you get very defensive. Very Ben-ish.I don’t think you understand research either, rather like Paul and Dominik, who take personal opinions and treat them as facts. Back to school with you!If you don’t like exclamation marks you might have a psychological problem. You can get help for that.

Hardly ever will you agree with me, but claiming that my opinion is “wrong” is very Simon-ish. Here's a lecture for you Simon: we are not supposed to think the same and we all form our opinions based on our own research, information, values, ethics and so on, as well as the people we talk to in person. And that's perfectly fine.No exclamation marks for size.

Perhaps lecture is the wrong word, Ben. That would hint at some educational value in what you and others say. Perhaps preaching is more appropriate.Maybe you need to suck it in a bit and realise that your agenda is only shared by a small minority of people.Just fancy that!

You don’t have to write anything to achieve that Ben!As for humour, not sure you know what that is.Paul is a bore, as are you. Constant lectures about cycling just turn people off. Every thread gets turned to that endlessly tedious activity, which is still a minority activity and always will be.You seem to think that everything will be wonderful if we cycle more, a view shared by some councillors, even though the reality is very different. If you can’t see that then you are either deluded or stupid.

Paul has forgotten to mention that you can also pay local children to mind your car while it’s parked. A sixpence is the going rate, I hearAnd should you suffer a crime you can always tell the friendly Bobby walking the beat, chatting to the shop keepers as they tend their wares. Better still if he’s patrolling on an old fashioned police bicycle, perfect for chasing those felons and footpads. He can blow his whistle for assistance.

It’s not as simple as that unfortunately.In our area there has been a long history of thefts of deliveries from doorsteps. The police know who is doing it. Residents have reported it on numerous occasions. There have been meetings with police and we are told to continue reporting it. But there’s no sanction that works as the perpetrators (who have drug habits to feed) live locally and aren’t worried about criminal records.They have branched out to other criminal activities such as breaking and entering but the authorities seem powerless to stop them.Similar with the open drug dealing locally. It’s recorded, reported and logged but there’s nothing that will stop it.

Returning to the original post and responding accordingly...Residents are caught on the horns of a dilemma. We are encouraged to report crime and anti-social behaviour through the complex system on the Met Police website, which then leads to the allocation of more resources to combat crime and anti-social behaviour. However, by reporting more, the statistics make people feel less safe and have an impact on their well-being.For example, if everyone who saw a drug dealer in Ealing reported the crime, then there would be a significant spike in the statistics, resulting in more police presence in the area and action to stop the reports.As I've said before, if you see it, report it. It's the only way to get the issue addressed.

It’s is boring when everything is turned onto that topic, although bike thefts will take up part of the crime statistics. Needless to say, that’s VERY important in the grand scheme of things.

From what I see on quite a regular basis, is low level crime & anti social behaviour.People are put off reporting as it’s made complicated, that stops us doing so.101 are typically experiencing a high number of calls.And from what I have read, the police are just not interested.You are given a number & case is closed.Figures are easily manipulated, for example , khans stabbing utopia. He doesn’t classify as murder, but homicide.A higher police foot patrol  ( with hi viz jackets) would comfort the public.

Lucky we have super crime prevention officer James on duty. Deploy him to Ealing town centre immediately and we shall sleep safer tonight! Is there no end to this man’s talents, knowledge, ambition, etc, etc?Meanwhile normal people answering the Council survey last year stated that fear of crime and personal safety were the biggest concerns about living in the borough. The Broadway isn’t a particularly nice place to be late in the evening.

Just a word of caution on the data. If you look at crime rates from year to year and you see a change, be careful on thinking whether that change been caused by a real change in crime, a change in reporting or some of both?

It’s no surprise, after my post about lawless West Ealing, my daughter’s car was taken from outside our house at 2pm ! No police attendance, all done over the telephone and contacted four hours later to say case closed your probably not going to get it back but we’ll keep an eye on ANPR !
