closure of a beloved local business

IMPORTANT NOTE: This post is inaccurate. North China remains in business on the Uxbridge Road, as it has done for the last 48 years.

It's always disheartening to see a local business close, especially one that has been a staple in the community. North China was a favourite for many, and its absence will certainly be felt. I hope the space doesn't remain vacant for long and that a new establishment can bring some vibrancy back to the area.

Or simple confusion where a great restaurant, which went off the boil when the owner retired, was almost directly opposite the North China, Total balls-up on my part.

They wouldn't like to open a new branch in Pitshanger Lane as we are still mourning the demise of the Golden Dragon. The shop is supposedly going to be a dog grooming parlour when it finally reopens

The news of closure of North China Restaurant is strange , for all we know the restaurant is doing well, and in no stage that the owner is thinking of closing. News of this published within the community is affecting the business badly. I wondered where this is coming from either the writher herself had visited the premises on the said date or she got it from other sources, it does need clarification quickly.

Gutted about the loss of North China. A bit closer to home is the very excellent Java Fusion on Churchfield Road. Indonesian/Malay but really good value particularly as it is a BYO.

Eric I know it is a little off the beaten track but I can thoroughly and without reservation recommend Meng house in Little Chalfont for superbly prepared and presented Malay Chinese food. Subtle flavors perfectly cooked and with really attentive,but without being obsessive, service.

Tragic to lose this wonderful restaurant. Three generations were involved in owning/running it dating back to the 1970s. The final family owner Lawrence died in his 60s a couple of years ago. But his father and grandfather lived till their 90s.Simply the best Chines food I ever tasted. My wife and I dined there on my August birthday each year for over 40 years. Only the riots in 2011 closed them down!

It went off the boil when the chef/proprietor retired (IIRC to the south coast) a few years ago. Shame to see this happen but happen it does, all too often and either quality goes down or prices become astronomical

Is this the North China on the Uxbridge Road on the way to Acton? I used to go there but haven't been there for a while, but my son went a couple of months ago. All the good restaurants seem to be closing!
