What's your vision for Ealing?

Lot of complaining in this forum, not a lot of vision.What do you wish for Ealing in the decades to come?More of the same?Or something different?Do you want to be a consumer or a creator?

Here is a definition of shithole for you:Deans Garden: litter everywhere in the garden and in surrounding pavements. Homeless / random people drinking and smoking up in the garden despite kids playing few feet away (completely disregarding the no drinking restrictions). The other day I saw a lady take a piss or poo behind the flower bed area (late evening 7-8pm). WE Broadway: rundown, ugly and resembles something out of a distopian war movie. Constant theft from the shops. Anti social behavior: see it all the time in that area with no visible police presence outside of cars zooming past to reach some other destination. Should I continue? I have a lot more reasons …

They will just cram ever more people into smaller areas, utilizing the ‘vertical extension’ idea they are so fond of. Basically, more and more huge towers in the ‘town centres’ they admire so much. Rather defeats the eco principles thet band on about so much.

That’s a question that Government inspectors will test the Council on when they arrive in June to examine in public the Borough’s new local plan. The answer matters since the new local plan is supposed to guide all new development in the Borough. The inspectors want to know if the Council’s vision for the kind of Ealing it wants to create is ambitious, yet realistic, and whether its objectives for achieving its vision are clearly set out and measurable.  Sift through the motherhood and apple pie to make up your own mind. No confidence at all which still gives them a better chance than the Conservatives of unseating Labour. I would love to see a council composed of independents and resident's groups like the one that does so well in Epsom.

The vision I’d like to see for Ealing in the future is….it in my rear view mirror as I head off to the coast/countryside to live somewhere else.It’s in a death spiral as is most of LondonBy the time I come to retire it’ll be finished I reckon

Visions are easy as they are usually too vague to be realisable. I remember when Jason Stacey, leader of the Conservative council back in the late 2000s, was asked for his vision of cleaner streets he said 'get them clean and keep them clean'. Simples really. And so in in that spirit...1. Get Ealing streets clean and keep them clean. 2. Use the Council's CCTV networks to target drug dealing locations and known crime hotspots.3. Stop building tomorrow's slums, or tall towers as they're sometimes called. 4. Cap the number of Houses in Multiple Occupancy and withdraw licences from those that become crime dens.5. Cull the vanity projects, eg. regional parks no one has asked for.

Simon, when you are blind to everything but traffic issues like 'blinkers James' it it not difficult to see how he misses.Open drug dealingThe number of 'voids' on the High StreetThe vacant lots where buildings were planned but never builtThe part completed buildings which will be demolished before they are even occupiedThe unswept streets and general level of filth.Come on Paul. open your eyes!

Paul should have gone to the recent West Ealing Neighbourhood meeting. Very well attended and a whole litany of complaints from residents about the area, including high crime rates (including murder), open drug dealing and drug taking, anti social behaviour and the run down nature of the area as a whole.The police had no answers. The councillors had no answers, just platitudes.It seems the only people who think it’s great are utopian fantasists who believe nothing other than what’s in their heads.

Fix West Ealing. It is a shit hole. There can’t be a vision for Ealing without finding a solution for all that ails West Ealing. Then, get rid of the casino shops on broadway.

Strip away the facade of biodiversity and creativity and you will find a deeply divided society.  Our food banks have never been busier, families have never struggled so hard to make ends meet and we have a council seemingly far more content on supporting 'build to rent' shoeboxes than the homes that families desperately need. There really is an underlying air of discontent and genuine inequality  and we must all work to do something about it. Even if it is only volunteering through a couple of hours a week it will make a difference to someone's life.

ANYTHING but Labour winning the next Council election. They have become far too comfortable, complacent, ineffective and incompetent, with the accompanying breathtaking arrogance and chicanery that being in power for so long inevitably breeds. Heck, even the local diehard Labour voters I know want rid of this rotten to the core crock!

Less high rise blocks.Less cycle lanes detrimental to motorists, where the council/tel try to force walking & cycling. Not suitable for everyone &  people need & want cars.Parks with grass cut & less wilding, where lack of  care makes them overgrown & less space.More police on regular foot patrol.West Ealing is a cesspit No ltns

Personally I think we live in a unique space, it seems we have more parks and waterways than anywhere else in London, and we also have a huge number of creative and scientific businesses.  I see Ealing as a powerhouse of arts, culture and science, and  also a green/blue corridor of biodiversity.
