Unfinished Apartment - Henry Construction- West Ealing

Ever since this company went bankrupt, I’ve seen no progress on the construction. It is a very clear blight and eyesore to the surrounding community. Does anyone if anything is being done about this ? I would expect it starts becoming a health hazard in short order if there is no maintenance etc that is being done to keep the building standing.

One supposes that there’s a safety risk if the unfinished building is left in situ indefinitely. No doubt it will be pulled down before it falls down.

Turns out to be a result then. In future years when things crumble, rot or collapse & people hurt. Risk of being sued, much like cladding fiasco

It was cllr Manro who spoke at the WEN meeting and he did indeed indicate that the current mess would probably have to be demolished, due to liabilities for defective work. Apparently it’s common practice.I doubt any aspect of what’s there would be salvageable. Given the shoddy nature of much new construction there are no guarantees that even the foundations will be reliable.

I must admit I wouldn’t like to pick up a job in the middle, especially one of this scale. But surely some is salvageable.The foundations, they must have worked from plans?So yet again more council’s negligence, no supervision

At the recent WEN meeting held in the Drayton Court, when an update on this site was requested, the response from the councillor concerned was that there was no specific news, but there is a possibility that the current unfinished building may need to be demolished and a new planning application submitted.Also, anyone who regularly passes the site will notice that CCTV is monitoring the site.It is also worth noting that in the construction world, a company rarely takes over a previous builder's work as there can be issues over building liability.If and when work restarts on the site, I hope that whoever is responsible for the project within the council does sufficient due diligence to ensure that the construction company has the ability to complete the project.I suspect local residents will live with a half-completed project for many years.

I too gave heard that no other contractor is willing to complete the project owing to quality issues.

I have heard on the grapevine that the half built blocks are to be demolished.

There’s been an anti-social behaviour problem in the Gardens for a very long time and no initiative seems to solve it. They don’t call it ‘Stabby Park’ for nothing.Building some poor quality flats next door isn’t going to help, not is the continued decimation of the shopping street. West Ealing is just one of several areas left behind by the Council, despite all the mealy mouthed utterances from Mason.

I would rather we demolish and extend Deans Garden. Maybe create some tennis courts or basketball courts in its place. I see so many kids in the area crowding around those small jungle gyms in Dean Garden. Surely this is something they could consider ..

Developers get round that by submitting the unironically titled ‘minor material amendments’ to their original planning consent. This usually adds storeys to agreed heights, with the general public unaware until they suddenly appear.What I can’t find anywhere now are the weekly public notices that used to be on the Council website and are printed in the phantom Ealing Gazette (distribution of three, all at Perceval House). Maybe the council employee responsible for uploading them has been sacked or can’t be bothered, or it’s a cunning ploy by Mason and co to keep normal people out of the loop.It’s a concern because all the notices including those for planning, traffic and licensing should be available.

I doubt any developer wants to complete another builder's work - especially a half-finished tower. If demolition is needed the finances of the re-development might lead to a replacement tower with even more storeys.

I believe Henry Construction were also the contractor on the development behind Tesco in Perivale. Work on that has started again. I'm sure whoever is funding the West Ealing scheme would be keen to cut their losses and have something built, unless it's such a financial mess that it can't be saved.

You can GUARANTEE it will take years if Liquidators/Receivers/Administrators are involved.And they always seem to be able to wrap up the job just when there's a penny in the pound available to Creditors.Or less, often nothing.Uncanny that.

It depends if someone takes over the failed contractor or the liquidators try to realise any value in the assets left behind. It could take months or even years before there is further progress
