Alperton by-election

This is obviously in Brent rather than Ealing but close enough for it to have some relevance. The Lib Dems have overturned a big Labour majority in Alperton. Obviously by-elections can be misleading but I'd be surprised if the Lib Dems aren't seeing this as hugely significant. Up until now in Ealing they have been nibbling away at Conservative wards to establish themselves as the main opposition. This limited objective having been achieved they seem content to stick never really giving the impression that they could win wards in Labour strongholds. This seems to be questionable now and with only 15 months until the next full election, if they got their act together, they could pull off a major surprise.

Their voters are Tory hating but seemingly unable to hold their breath for long enough to vote Labour if I remember rightly. Doesn't look like much has changed apart from the electorate with brain cells realising that Labour are pants.

You are absolutely right, apologies for my error. The point remains that the result shows that the Lib Dems can challenge in areas where previously it might be expected that they had no hope.

Your facts are incorrect. The Lib Dems were defending a seat they won in 2022; they won two of the three seats in 2022. You can find Alperton ward election results here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alperton_%28ward%29. In this by election the Libs increased their vote share by 2 points, Conservatives by 8 points, Reform got 8% and Labour's vote share fell by 18 points. Labour losing votes to everyone.

Anything is better than Ealing Council Liebore but I fear the LibDems are just Liebore Lite and we won't, for instance, see any control, let alone cessation of, ugly Towers still popping up everywhere.Reform didn't do as well as I thought they would but for a relatively new party they seem to be rapidly gaining traction.More power to them too, for me ALL The Old Guard have their various agendas and it can't hurt to give the new kid on the block a go. They can't do any worse?
