At least we know most cyclists don’t stop at crossings, as my daughter’s friend discovered to her cost on Boston Road.

I also learned to second guess, and preceded that, as a pedestrian, with stopping at the kerb before crossing. I certainly did not encounter people using child buggies as a 'right of entry' to a crossing. I will always try to second guess but I am not ruddy psychic 😃

When I did my driving test, the Highway Code specified to slow down and look out for pedestrians approaching a zebra crossing. This is the definition of ‘second guessing’.Mind you I passed my test a long time ago. Maybe it’s changed now which accounts for the drivers who speed up instead?

My issue with speed has always been from the point of view of the person outside the vehicle and the extent of injury it will cause.I won’t repeat it as I’ve mentioned it countless times here and on other social media (does this forum count as social media?) but at the end of the day it comes down to how seriously injured, even fatally so, the victim is.Whether it’s the driver’s fault, or not, or whether the driver is careless or perfectly focused, speed will always determine the final outcome.Added to that the effect on braking distance, which I feel is a big factor in drivers not stopping at zebra crossings. They have picked up too much speed and have gone for the ‘keep going’ option over the ‘brake hard’ one.

A pedestrian controlled crossing would act a visual deterrent to road users but would also prevent pedestrians 'blindly' crossing the road. Much as as I love 'second guessing' their intentions the number of close encounters with mums pushing buggies while on their phone taking the decision to simply abruptly turn onto the crossing is concerning. The railings outside the gates at Lammas do provide a visual deterrent to kids running out but I do feel that pedestrian controlled crossing would provide better protection for all.  The crossing at the Dudley Gardens junction is also ripe for change given the number of elderly pedestrians using Northfield Pharmacy and Northfields Surgery

Not a bad shout Dominik, I agree (shock horror)😂Keeps traffic flowing & stops when necessary, although I would line cameras .I think we mostly agree speed is an issue, however excessive speed, not your 2 or 3 miles over

Since the introduction of the 20mph speed limit, you’d hope drivers would have plenty of time to stop at that and the other zebra crossings on Northfield Avenue. I’m still surprised when they don’t. The one near Hessel Road is particularly bad.I would prefer to keep the zebras and educate drivers. I think there should also be an extra crossing between Graham Avenue and Lammas Park, as that’s quite a big gap considering the amount of shops and businesses on either side of the road. A lot of people cross near Papaya.Personally I think zebra crossings are better for both traffic and pedestrian flow in this area, but that’s just my view. I could be persuaded otherwise.

If you bother to check the data (something you will not do James as facts are a 'foreign country' to you)  you will see that there have been 23 'incidents' in the immediate vicinity of the crossing since 2020. A number even the most moronic, blinkered and fantasising cyclist would find it hard to ignore.

To make the crossing into Lammas Park safer for all. I have never claimed that road danger is not a problem for stop you are fantasizing again as is your nature. I really do hope that you get the health support that you so obviously need Paul.

Why Nigel? You keep insisting road danger isn't a problem don't you?How many incidents have there been at that crossing before it was there to justify the expense? the article says "several". That could mean three..

Excellent news. It could do with a couple of locations on Northfield Avenue being upgraded from zebras (entrance to Lammas Park being one obvious location)..
