Good to see this forum going strong...
Hey all! I used to be an active member on this group until I swapped Hanwell for East Herts just over 10 years ago. I'm glad to see this forum is still going strong and a few names from when I used to be a regular are still fighting the good fight. Sadly, I don't get to return to West London as much as I would like, but when I do I am always shocked at the speed and scale of change - not always for the better in my opinion. There seems to have been a special on high-rise apartments for sure!Seeing some of the classic local businesses now a thing of the past is such a shame but the one change that really sticks in my throat is the closure of Perivale Park golf course. Back in the early 1980's that facility launched my love affair with the game of golf, as it has done for likely thousands more people in the borough. It was a cheap facility that gave access to the game and was much loved by its regulars. I believe (please correct if wrong) the rationale to shut PPGC was to make more public park space available to the community by rewilding it. The cynic in my believes the real reason for closure was that Ealing Council were over-budget and some number cruncher believed they can save a few quid by removing the need to maintain the facility. I could be wrong.Anyhow, best to you all. I check in from time to time to 'feel the pulse' and do enjoy reading a lot of the posts and comments.
