City Radio

We had some help in fixing a lamp which just needed a spring to put it   back into use.  It is a shame that this will be closing at the end of the month - and I wish I had realised earlier that it would be useful for much more than just radios!  My electricals/things to fix box has still got quite a few things needing some TLC.

Three great and missed, stores along with Shellshears in West Ealing and Boston Manor Home Stores.

It was Sellars Bros. and there was Kays of Ealing who also did specialist tools and Clay Bros near Ealing Green who sold sheep metal in domestic sizes.

Morris brothers were great. I used buy items such as my first electric soldering iron, wire stripper, and electric multi meter. Often on a Saturday afternoon for use in the future. City radio was always there. Remember the batteries for old valve portable radios. City Radio had them.

Too many of these valuable independents are closing with City Radio hot on the heels of Woolseys Cycles in Acton.I still miss the four independent menswear shops in Ealing Broadway. Alfred Sayers, Lynes, Morris Brothers and Neads.

I'm very sorry to hear City Radio is closing. I've often wondered how they kept going when so much of their custom is for very small items, like fuses. They have helped me out on numerous occasions. They will be missed. They are an Ealing institution; even appearing in Carry On Constable
