Question re a street name

I noticed whilst in Ealing Broadway this morning that the walk through from the Uxbridge Road (next to the new cinema/cafe) leading to Mattock Lane no longer has a name. I thought it was called Barnes Pikle or something similar. I have no idea what that means but it sticks in my memory. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

No, but we very much enjoyed Shakespeare in Walpole Park about a week ago - Much Ado About Nothing - the players were from the Drama Studio London part of the University of West London.

Thanks everyone I must have missed it but I didn't walk down to the Mattock Lane end. Whilst remembering all things Ealing, does anyone remember the open air theatre in Walpole Park? As a child it was a treat to go there on Saturday evenings to see 'a concert party'.

The sign was still there at the Mattock Lane end the weekend of the Blues Festival. I overheard several festival goers comment on the name.

'Pikle' seems to have originated from the term 'pighte' which is an old English word for a small piece of land. Over time the word got corrupted to 'Pikle'.I guess it has no businesses or homes on it. Cars can't drive down it - sad though that the sign should disappear. Is our Council too poor to create and put up a new sign? Maybe it's land unadopted by the Council?

It was certainly Barnes Pikle for many years. I hadn't noticed that the sign had gone. Pity, if so.
