There is a small but world-wide and still growing group of people mending things - eg Repair Cafes and Restart groups. These are skills that we need and which give many great satisfaction in using and great pleasure to those who those whose articles have been mended. Just look at the Repair Shop on TV! Cheap modern replacements definitely aren't always the best answer! With Repair Cafes you get help in mending your items - but you need to be able to get hold of the bits and pieces - although there has been a bit of a change with the advent of 3D printing. We definitely need people who can think outside the box and can work out ways in which to fix things. Simply replacing or even just going onto the internet and looking for a spare part and then if you can't find it immediately buying new and having to relearn how to use something new just isn't necessarily the answer either. https://www.repaircafe.org/en/

Used to look in there on Saturday afternoons for interest. Bought my first multimeter, electric soldering iron, a loud speaker, jack plugs, and more. Life as it was when we repaired things.
