Neil Kinnock Joins Rupa Huq's Re-election Campaign Launch

Photographs of Labour's prospective Parliamentary candidates out on the campaign trail usually include the same faces: Ealing councillors obligated to go out and support them on the doorstep. Those faces are conspicuous by their absence in the photos accompanying this story.The local politics grapevine suggests that Ealing Council leader Peter Mason has spitefully banned councillors from canvassing for Rupa, directing them to marginal constituencies instead. We should hope that Rupa is able to post many of her own photos on social media, local councillors in tow, in the remaining four weeks before election day - to disprove the rumours of division in the ranks!

Costigan doesn’t listen to residents who disagree with her narrow world view and has been selected mainly in her ability to follow party orders and not rock the boat. Her election leaflet tells us that she will vote for things in parliament that the leadership tells her to vote for.A lot of what’s pledged is unlikely to happen locally. Both main parties seem desperate to outpromise each other, with scarcely credible pledges.

And wrt to Momentum, it's not "the local level" that's the biggest issue, it's their furtive influence at national level, particularly The Unions, that we should be very worried about.I'll give Starmer less than a year if he gets into The Big Chair.And God help us if The Fishwife succeeds him........

No party is crank free - I give you Liz Truss.I am not privy to the internal machinations of the local Labour party but doesn't the selection of Deirdre Costigan indicate that the centrists are pretty firmly in control at a local level? Many former Momentum activists have left or simply lost interest. Those that remain have every right to argue for the party to adopt more left wing policies but should be committed to continue to support it when it doesn't.

Diane Abbott is still there. Corbyn only just got kicked out. Ed Milliband is a weirdo and a front bencher. And our own Deirdre Costigan qualifies is likely to be an MO next month, so new cranks in Parliament to join the old.

Farage made a good living out of EU expenses without ever doing any work. Famously was on the Fisheries committee without ever taking part and protecting british interests. Now the tax avoiders, money launderers and Putin have their wish and we are not in the EU. Now that Britain is finally going to implement import rules we are going to see inflation. so the Brexit we all voted for apparently doesn't exist!!Neil is a really decent guy who worked very hard and cared about our country

I am not sure having Lord (didn't he want to abolish them?) Kinnock in her corner will impress as many people as she would hope.Another one that was vehemently against the EU in past times and then took a huge job and pension from them.Could go either way Rupa.
