I stand to be corrected but the local clinical commissioning groups are statuory consultees so they would make an objection if they felt that there was insufficient places. For large developments there also has to be Health Impact Assessment which should pick up care shortages.As for Rosco's claims. There is currently around 1 GP per 5,000 people in the Acton W3 post code area according to NHS data. So yes, if all the extra 5,000 people moved in by 2026 there would be a need for an extra doctor during term time at least. However, although students do get sick they don't get sick as much as older people, the rise in demand isn't likely to put as much pressure on services as you think it is.The issue here clearly is not too few surgeries but too few doctors which can only be solved by making it a more attractive profession to work in not by stopping building housing.
