Shoplifting all getting a bit out of hand innit?

I wonder what could possibly have emboldened these people, besides "The Tory Cuts!"?      😊

Indeed it is. The big short ops really don't care if the independent retailers vanish. Its a ruddy jungle in retail and has been since the first supermarket opened and most markets were deregulated under successive governments. Who ever expected to be able to bank  with Marks and Spencer? To buy your mobile phone and use it on a network provided by Tesco? To buy a computer and a TV in Sainsburys?

When the big shops don't care that is very bad news for the small shops for whom the losses are ruinous.

The big shops don't care. They cut staff numbers to the bone, lose thousands through 'shrinkage' and simply add a penny or two to everything to cover it.

I've seen someone in a wheelchair stuffing steaks down the back of it.  I looked around for a member of staff.  None.  I looked for the security man at the door - not there.  Shops are losing thousands.  They are also cutting down on staff and using more self-service tills or perhaps not able to get staff. It is not surprising so much more expensive food is being security tagged.  Staff in some shops are now being given cameras to wear, apprehending someone stealing can be very risky - especially if you can be easily identified. Desperate or drugged people can be dangerous.Shops are also not keen on any bad publicity.

Shoplifting is seen by the Police as low level and rarely gets prosecuted and so it is seen by criminals as low or minimal risk. You sometimes see the odd person getting prosecuted just to show to us that we are dealing with it. The people to blame are the government who have gutted the whole criminal justice system and the supermarkets for not providing effective security. The Police do not have the resources to pursue these criminals who are all on shop CCTV and the criminals know it. You cant blame the lefties for this.

Genuinely poor people go to Food Banks.The shoplifters appear to focus upon the upper end such as fillet steaks and high quality wines rather than everyday items. They then flog these items to purchase drugs with that money. They are quite simply criminals not poor victims.

There are also a lot of desperate people shoplifting to feed their drug habit.  There is a growing difference between rich and poor.  Universities are now providing food banks.

Look no further than the 40 plus caravans occupying Elthorne Park at the moment having moved from Chiswick (shoplifting goes through the roof) to Richmond (shops having to hire security staff) to Tesco Osterley (temporarilly closed) Hanwell is next.
