Dishonest business practice.

It's seems like everyone is out to scam. 10 days ago I had a letter from SSE, part of the O.V.O. family offering a £50 energy credit if I had a Smart Meter installed. I booked the meter but had to change to S.S.E. O.V.O. I have just been informed by John from S.S.E. O.V.O. that the agent from S.S.E. had tricked me into signing up to S.S.E. O.V.O. and since signing up have been told that I don't qualify for a Smart Meter or £50 credit. John has promised to rectify the matter.I have been on the phone to SSE and OVO from 9.30 this morning until now ( 3.00 pm) today. I have been waiting up to 30 minutes to get connected and have been cut off 3 times by Ryan then Steff then another woman.

They seem to be targeting older customers and those who do not do everything online by sending bills and debit adjustments that make no sense.My wife and I have been trying to help 3 family friends who are in that category now, and I think are probably reassured that we are now as confused and confounded as they are and that it is not their age !Just how do these companies get away with making changes that simply bamboozle customers when they had a far better method previously?

Whole Smart Meter thing is just another smartly packaged deception to foist smart meters on everyone and effectively spy on households and price them accordingly.That's what they are really wanting smart metering for, to divide and rule by targeting a households peak usage.  Not that that's going to be presented on a TV ad or in any leaflets.The same goes for the new generation of water meters. Not really to save you money, more to increase ways to charge you more money in differing ways so one will never be able to compare with another.There are a few areas where they are a boon and open up flexibility - but for a normal domestic household.?No-one needs a smart meter to be thrifty or prudent with energy use.Just switch off what's not needed and use your finger and your brain. Free.The cost of running a smart meter is never mentioned( it was roughly £16 per year in 2020) Simple self discipline to switch off what you don't need or are not using.The total reliance of Apps and gadgets ( which all use some form of energy) by so many who are at the stage where they think putting up shelves is done by an app if by magic is a sad trap.Obviously Fridges, and various safety features have to stay on.What really ought to be scrapped are standing charges for low users or if you do use less energy.Standing charges nullify any point in saving if you are already a low user.Giving discounts to smart meter users when others without them already have the sense to switch off is the first example of how they are manipulating and dividing customers/consumers.

Check the small print as the tird party switchers often use legitimate company logos and then claim to be "working on behalf of ".

The letter with the £50  credit offer was definitely from SSE.

Probably one of the many third party 'switchers' paid a commission to get you to switch. I used to get calls from them almost weekly to switch landline or mobile supplier.
