LTN's dont push traffic to thier edges - report

Meanwhile over on the Brentford site we have Cllr ‘Five Curries’ Lambert claiming the Swyncombe closure has been made permanent because residents ‘overwhelmingly wanted it’ in the consultation. Yet the Whitestile Road closures remain in place and are to be made permanent despite the residents overwhelmingly wanting them removed in the consultation.So, we have one consultation treated as a referendum because it suited the purposes of the ruling political party, while the other is just a consultation and residents are ignored.Something seriously skewed there, especially as traffic increased on Windmill Road by 19 percent following the closures. According to Lambert ‘studies’ show that LTNs reduce pedestrian injuries yet he produces zero evidence relating to any of the affected roads. Just a big fat liar.

TFL/LBE have consistently shown themselves to be manipulative, sneaky, and underhand, they are so obviously not to be trusted. At all.Well meaning folk on the Nextdoor Forum are organising petitions but I'm afraid said petititions will only be used for toilet paper.In current circumstances you only have one option, take a leaf out of the book on The French Method / Lefty Militant Anarchist and show up angry and mob handed in your thousands at City Hall.This will generate media coverage and is the only thing these arrogant Communists will begin to understand.Being polite and playing by the rules is exactly what they want, because they can stall you forever within "the system.". But it's OK of course for them to ignore the rules.Fight!I thank you.    😉

TFL. are spending untold £££££ on promoting the ulez expansion- where khan “lost” any figures which went against it.Apparently the most dangerous of places to be is in your car itself.Well I’m happy to take that risk & have done so for over 40 years.There are thousands of deaths a year from pollution (apparently)I know of 1 sad high profile case which kept getting appealed until the result was as TfL wanted.Im more concerned about walking in public & knife crime. This does happen with increasing numbers every year.No revenue to be gained in dealing with that however

You would say that wouldn’t you. Exposure on most residential roads in Ealing is already very low. TfL knows that, as does Ealing Council. So do you.

I would be keen to hear what people thought of the smoking ban, especially from those who were smoking in 2007. Hazy pubs, foul smelling restaurants and fog filled train carriages are now a thing of the past - and nothing more than a memory (as is the implementation in 2000 of the Lawn Gardens LTN!). The smoking ban has reduced the exposure of non-smokers to toxic fumes. I can't remember having the opportunity to vote on the smoking ban, so it wasn't done democratically. However, because it benefited more people than it affected it was made a law. Lower healthcare costs, fewer smokers and reducing the number of passive smokers are three good examples how we all benefit from the smoking ban.  Similarly, the forthcoming ULEZ extension will improve your health and the health of London's children. If you don't agree, try and get the agreement from your nearest pulmonologist. It is worth having.

Doing the same in Torbay where the council has not consulted and locked the doors on meetings and excluded all but party members to one of the Q&As.The risk to local businesses and tourism dependency for almost everyone working in the area is massive. it's already too expensive and has suffered a knock back on retuning visitors.But, like here the ignorance of peoples livelihoods is huge.The argument is climate emergency and the sign up to be 100% carbon Neutral.However the place is by the sea and is very windy and stormy in winter months - like most coastal towns. Damp and high maintenance homes of modest build are prolific and thus heating bills and usage are higher than average. Add to that a large older retired population is a very hilly area with minimal public transport so car usage vital, not an indulgence.Are they doing anything about those?  Not a chance.Ironic that this country is prepared to fully support the onslaught of democracy and send aid that has a huge carbon and pollutant footprint and yet at the same time has no regard for democracy and the onslaught of its ethics  at home and within.

There are Conservative councils out there (e.g. Canterbury) who are introducing completely bonkers schemes in pursuit of the Net Zero unicorn. All the major parties are as one on this issue.

Yes, totally agree, as I too have oft stated on here innumerable times.There IS however a VERY rare, almost extinct breed of Ealing Labour Ward Councillor, and Daniel Crawford (North Acton) seems to be one, from my own experience he works hard and does the job he was elected to do.

Ealing Councillors are appalling, they have no engagement unless you are a party member. and only if you are a party member singing from the same song sheet.Woe betide one who dares to air a different view.They are all to cowardly and ambitious to dare otherwise.I will give credit to one or two Hounslow councillors they do engage, even if they don't agree or won't agree at least the engage.Here they leave it to their brown nosing acolytes to 'report back'Yet the population of ignorance and apathy will continue to vote based on national government or out of blind loyalty.It's going to take a seismic wave of soling non party based genuine resident independents across the whole borough.Can't ever see that happening but it's needed as Party Politics has demonstrated it's incompetence and moral corruption and worse for too long now across the entire range.

Windmill Road and South Ealing Road were well nigh impassable when the LTNs were in place. The utterly dishonest Labour councillors, Block and Driscoll simply made up ‘data’ to support them.There was no traffic problem before. The roads off Junction Road were quiet pretty much all day, every day. The only times there were problems were on Brentford home game days and if there was a major incident on the A4.No baseline data was collected beforehand, either for pollution or traffic flows. They tried to hide this fact but were forced to admit to it after a month or two. Then they pretended to have pollution monitors collecting ‘data’, when the nearest one was at South Ealing station, about a mile away.At a meeting with residents one Sunday morning Driscoll told us the barriers were necessary in case of ‘future rat running’ post pandemic. It was patent nonsense then and is so now. Nobody was going to drive more if the places they had to go to didn’t have parking provision. I have never known any regular commuter in this area who drives into central London for work.It’s bad enough to have councillors who are dishonest but they are lazy and prejudiced too. Zero effort from Labour to get step free access at Northfields station. Last month there was a meeting about it and residents were told a feasibility study would cost £150,000 and they’d have to find the money themselves. That’s nothing compared to the vast sums spanked on cycling infrastructure that barely one percent of the population uses.Accountability is zero. No ward forums any more. Ignoring emails. Useless. But picking up the bigger allowances for themselves voted through after last May’s election. Just don’t mention the cost of living crisis.

'Appearing to' is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this post.First bit may be true. 2nd bit not so much. I'm not going to look this up but my own 'comprehensive study' is based on living in Windmill Road for 33 years, between Whitestile and Darwin Roads. My study noted that while rush-hour traffic would back up as far as my flat once or twice a week at most, after LTNs, this became every day, twice a day. And not just to Darwin: Carlyle Road, Murray Road and beyond. Lots of E2 buses, stranded. All these vehicles, spewing out exhaust fumes, while the Mayor of London pontificates about ULEZ and the icle children. All of it so much nonsense.But let's take this at face value. So what is better? 100 vehicles moving around fairly freely, or 60 vehicles (hoorah!) stuck in a traffic jam spewing out dangerous. pollutants.Our choice, before it was too late, was to sell up and leave Ealing/Brentford forever. Heartbreaking. I loved West London, but it's a lost cause.

He forgets his 2 car trips to walk dog!!Apparently thousands of people a year are dieing from pollution?Hmm. Knife crime seems to be more in the headlines, if it’s not  smothered, how many deaths each year & rising?But all khan wants to do is allow these drug smoking dealing scrotes to be allowed to roam freely & unchallenged.The crimes they generate & cause ignored so they can be decriminalised.My point being Greenford.The congestion & pollution caused by foolhardy traffic schemes, promoted by tfl, khan, councils- regardless of the public views.Why money. It & they stink, they’re corrupt , money taking policies.

What is patently obvious is middle class idealists do not understand the necessity and only means for a great many who need to make a living and provide for the family.  They never see those who straddle out a 3am to ensure their nice business trip plane is cleaned and ready for a 6am departure, that the hospital is clean and reset for another day and night, that the buses or tube are serviceable.Ever tried to do any of those journeys to work by public transport?  Many are not even possible and boring conditions such that using a car can also use up 50% of their income but better 50% income than none at all.This is why the ULEZ extension will bankrupt some and render others barely viable. If the intention is a form of social cleansing then Mayor Khan has yet to claim that success. The health implications and the already insane financial pressures. But we see the poor end results of too many over expensive projects everywhere, far too much ends up mediocre or not fully fir for purpose and that's more down to profiteering and engineering research to suit.It's not unique to Ealing or London but almost a Pandemic in itself.

Bluntly the report is a load of manufactured nonsense.This is yet more of the same anti car bashing with figures manipulated to suit LCC, Green agenda, TFL & some councils.Even basic common sense can tell you if a road is shut, others will be more congested or crowded .Where else can they go, there is nowhere.These idiots sit in offices have no idea of the real world. The Uxbridge Road, Northfields Ave were absolutely choc a block as these were the main roads were all traffic could only go & had to go Journey times greatly increased, pollution up due to idling vehicles, congestion increased.Too many cars will be the frankly boring retort.People need & want cars, why do you think they don’t decrease

Take the partial closure of Swyncombe Avenue, pushes through because most residents wanted it. The traffic has increased on Windmill Road as a result. This from Hounslow Council’s report last October:‘On Windmill Road, traffic flows have increased by 19% whencomparing the most recent July 2022 traffic data to the June 2018 “before” data. Northbound traffic flows have increased by 31% from 4335 vehicles a day in 2018 to 5685 vehicles a day in 2022. Southbound traffic flows have increased by 8% from 4551 vehicles a day in 2018 to 4925 vehicles a day in 2022. It is likely that other interventions in the area have also contributed to this increase, for example the Whitestile Road diagonal closure.’Hardly negligible numbers, but perhaps ‘Dr’ Aldred doesn’t know how to count!

Until proper completely impartial studies are commissioned ( which has not been the case from TfL or the GLA since inception. You just get what they pay handsomely to hear.Trouble with that is the solutions end up being half baked and poor.Good solutions came about by good solid fact and pragmatism. Something this country had oodles of but now stands bereft of an once or a gram of it.

The measurement methodology used by Aldred in compiling this report is already being widely discredited as it excluded traffic at under 10 kp/h which, of course, makes the figures regarding displacement look far better than they actually are.Do remember that Aldred has a vested interest in this as anti car rhetoric secures additional funding and perpetuates the division upon which Khan thrives.
