Brompton aims to move again

Indeed.We can ask ourselves.. how many manufacturing factories are on  the Great West Road these days?Or on Commerce Road.Or on Harlequin Avenue.Or the Churchill Estate on Boston Manor Road.Or on Thames Road, Strand on the Green.Or Brook Road Northside.Or the site of the old Ealing Road School. It used to be a novelty exploring local industrial estates and finding manufacturing activities in all kinds of backwaters. (All business prospects in my packaging /handwork trade.) But no more.In addition, so many office blocks in Brentford seem to be advertising vacant space... thus a temptation for them to ask permission to convert to apartments!Thank goodness for Sky TV who employ some 10,000!

All goes back to the rather contradictory Position of ' Director of Regeneration'.Both Ealing and Hounslow have suffered from the wheeling and dealing of this office and the achievements laughableA more appropriate term ought to be 'Degeneration'The number of local industrial works spaces particularly for tiny, small. and middle industrial and commerce has been decimated. With no possibility for expansion.The number for good long term career jobs - which you can walk or cycle to has shrivelled.  Rates and rents render most unviable and policies rendering supply transport pushing that unviability further.The loss of decent and stable local jobs has been huge and the creation of short term and non prospect jobs a non - achievement. But good for the CV with the facts left out.The mindset pushing this  have no conception of work other than from a laptop or screen and their own career opportunities. Borne out by more than a few departed directors and officers of regeneration. Which shows where their values really lay.  How increasing population and diminishing industrial facilities and thus jobs justify success is beyond comprehension.

News reports mention that Brompton will not be leaving for many years yet..as they are building a new purpose built factory in Kent..close to the Channel... to easier facilitate their export trsding.

A Wikipedia  check reveals that Brompton started proppa (!) in the London Borough of Ealing ..under railway arches  at 2 Bollo Lane.

Shame that they have to leave West London to fulfil their expansion plans but a wonderful UK manufacturing success story all rre same.
