Ealing Half Marathon

Ok , while I get it’s all in a good cause, all you Greenies etc profit.Here the thing, roads are closed at every junction.Life goes on, people need to go about their business.Road closed, go WHERE????????There are absolutely no diversion signs or alternative routes.Said the same last year, cars going round in circles.Ban the run until it’s properly managed.As for the clueless marshals

It's once a year and a great event. Some signage and notice could be better especially for those around Lammas park and Northfields & South Ealing but that's minor.I just wish I could now run 5k, joints now worn out from 40 years of activity just a decade ago I could easily run 10k in a decent time. But when I was competitive, there was no Ealing event, in fact very few events locally.  The Horsenden Hill Cross Country run was a must and great fun. David Bedford turned out at a couple of these and we were as kids awe struck that we have an Olympic Champion taking part and giving out the medals ! -Only the first 3 got a medal then!

Please contact the race organisers info@ealinghalfmarathon.com with any comments and suggestions. The race route is the same year on year, signs are put up two weeks before to warn residents and those who drive along the roads (I am one of these volunteers who puts up signs). Houses and cars on the route are leafletted a week before. As for diversions - basically go to any road next to a closed road and it's probably open! It's too hard to do diversion signs as it  depends on where you are going...marshalls are locals and volunteers who are happy to help wherever they can.  TFL are happy to put buses on diversion for this event, please use your usual source of bus information to see where the diversions are.The balance of a small amount of inconvenience versus the good of this even in terms of money raised, healthy exercise, community cohesion is well in favour of the race.

We just made sure we got out in time this year on Sunday because we had something else to go to.  The Kids 0-5 years Family Mile was brilliant to watch on Saturday morning and we clapped them all back in.It happens every year and is a great success.  There are signs everywhere. Just plan for and around it.

Well done Paul. Must be very gratifying for you. But don’t take it as some clue that we agree with the rest of the nonsense you come out with.Short road closures for a specific event on a specific day are fine, but closing roads so a few self-entitled cyclists can go for a spin isn’t.

The route may well be publicised well in advance.It doesn’t help people getting from A to B.Bus routes were suspended (?), a little tweaking would help a lot.The world doesn’t stop any more on a Sunday, in fact it’s more commonly becoming a “normal “ working day

The route is published months in advance Peter, it has been the same route for years save for the actual start and finish points within Lammas Park.  I am certainly willing to adapt to a change/ a little inconvenience for a couple of hours for the wonderful community event.

A sizeable 'minority' of 7,000 runners and over 9.000 directly or indirectly involved (marshalls. catering, support etc) with roads closed in some cases for only 90 minutes.Yes, the signage could be better but, overall, Ealing is considered to be the best half marathon in England. Long may it run (pun intended).

If the minority ( like cyclists too)) want to have it all their way, then yes.It needs to be set up properly with clear diverted routes

Exactly that.Marshall’s have no clue, when asked how to get to Ealing Bdwy say ( from my road - off Argyle ). Couldn’t say. Proper diversion route needs setting up, or run through the parks

I live just off Pitshanger Lane so watch this every year. The marshals do their best to reopen our road ( Kent Gardens) as soon as possible. Yesterday it was less than one and a half hours. But I have to agree though- signage should be more comprehensive. I watched one driver yesterday having a run in with the marshals as he had to catch a train at Euston for an urgent appointment.

Signage is inadequate especially the temporary bus diversions. Ban it? Absolutely not! I couldn't even walk 20 metres, let alone run c.20 kilometres but it brings so much pleasure to so many and raises thousands for good causes. Plus, my son knocked a full seven minutes off his personal best.

The run doesn’t need to be banned. They just need to put up proper signage. It’s been going for 10 years or so and the signage hasn’t been adequate at any of them.But it’s a great event, and running is a much better exercise than cycling.

Ban the Ealing Half marathon? Five hours of a Sunday morning once a year some roads are closed to allow this spectacular and amazing event?How miserable are you!? :D
