They do indeed but the council's no longer dictate the quality of the works only calling back the utility companies when people complain as I have about Thames water in the past as the quality of their reinstatement works was absolutely dreadful. These are not gig economy workers but some of the companies doing the works are among the largest specialist construction companies in the UK and the level of expertise needed does not lend itself to 'casuals'. Seemingly though no one takes overall project responsibility. I am sure that the council, if it got it's act together, could get far better quality workmanship on its roads and pavements.

And people think they are paying too much tax so vote for parties who promise to lower it. Then they complain that the services that they used to receive have now been cut because of lack of funds. You get what you pay for has never been truer.

Utility companies have to get permissions from the Councils.Every company nowadays seems to work with sub-contractors now.  Too much gig economy working and not enough teamwork.  Many not paid enough.

Very little to do with costruction companies and everything to do with the way that the utility companies now let their contracts. One company comes the dig the hole the utility company's contractor comes to do the work, another company comes to fill the hole and yet another company comes to do the making good. None of them really care about the overall job just getting their bit done as quickly and it cheaply as possible No wonder the roads and payments are in such a bloody mess.

BTW Construction companies don't make the pavement good, do they?  Presumably because the Client would have to pay the construction company.  There used to be a much more joined up system of working and checking that everything was done but Councils have had to cut their services because Govt likes the idea of cutting red tape.  The problem is One Man's Red Tape = Another Man's Health & Safety.

Equally, one cannot specify what size of vehicle is used by a supplier. I have had a virtually complete bathroom delivered on a LWB Transit but a combi microwave came on a ruddy great truck as the chap delivering was on a two day run from a base in leicestershire.

I wasn't complaining about particularly narrow roads, was I?  However with some of those arrangements need to be made in advance if a longer and wider lorry needs to park and too often people can't be bothered to take the trouble to.

Ms Bond, I ask respectfully, do you drive & if so anything bigger than a car???Trucks have wing mirrors, significantly larger than a car or  van. Therefore in a certain road to prevent a bottleneck it might be acceptable to park up on footway to alleviate the issue.Some delivery vehicles, slip lorries need to drive in part  across footway, however the construction company have to make good the surface as it was.’The poison & claptrap, blatant lies spewed by pc Khan James & his blinkered views, portray any or all motor vehicles as the anti  christ.The council, TfL with their absolute obsession with anti car rhetoric & cash cow schemes against motorists at any opportunity.Cyclists lobby .& supporters live in a liberal woke , everything perfect lovey dovey world.Get real

Have you read the DEFRA report yet or is this another question you are going to swerve Mr. James? I'd prefer to see tree planted in the bloody cycle lanes, let's face it they are hardly used by cyclists even when provided at great expense. Cue the routine James bleat.

and it's not just the elderly that have problems with pavement slabs broken up by pavement parking.I'd also prefer to see trees planted in sticky out bits so they're not on the pavement.

Shame then that a totally disproportionate amount is being spent on cycle lanes which will delay vehicles going to Ealing Hospital rather than repairing pavements and enforcing the law about pavement parking, the latter could be self-financing if as rigidly enforced as other parking transgressions.

I watched incredulously a couple of days ago as a delivery driver mounted the pavement in order to park.  Incredulously because there was so much parking space that day including just where he parked - more than twice the space taken up by the van.  There was no need to park like that at all.  It isn't just delivery drivers though who are doing this.Please don't drive on the pavements and please report rocking paving stones and kerbs etc to the Council as it makes walking even more dangerous for pedestrians.  Push pedestrians into cars and you'll make the roads even more congested.The NHS does not need the extra work and expense and the snowballing effect on families of a carer being incapacitated and unable to walk, cycle, drive and care for the family or a worker with a gig economy job being able to earn and provide for a family is immense.  Anyone know how long the wait is for physiotherapy nowadays?

Here we go....Where was that? Fantasy Island?There have been no pavement improvements where I live for more than a decade. They did resurface the road last year, badly. I was told that the new surface should last ‘four or five years’ but it’s already breaking up. Even the cycling residents are complaining about it.Yet they find millions to install bike lanes that barely anyone uses. I wonder why?

Don’t pretend to be a victim Paul. I’m not obsessed with you, I just like calling out your stupidity and double standards.The real bullies here are the cycling mafia who currently control London’s transport agenda, despite no evidence that the majority of residents think cycling is the answer to anything. It’s a minority activity, despite what you say. And isn’t it strange that cycling and walking are lumped together as active travel yet very little is spent on improving pavements in the area.

I'm guessing the cyclist has misunderstood the new Highway Code guidelines and thinks he now has priority over the bus but it remains the case that all road users should give way to buses.He is clearly an idiot but I regularly see car drivers blocking buses when they should have given way and then refusing to move. It is not the mode of transport that is the problem, it is the stupidity and selfishness of the user.

The musketeers, of course, fought against the abuses, absurdities and irregularities of a quasi- totalitarian regime. They also fought the disinformation campaign sown by agents and supporters of the regime. Therefore, in the current context, to be called a musketeer, it's probably quite a compliment which I am not sure was the intent.
