Ealing is a toxic brand

Yesterday’s by-election was triggered by the resignation of Labour councillor Lewis Cox amid ructions following Ealing’s vexed leadership election in May. Cox did not mince his words, calling Ealing Labour a “toxic brand” and describing “a system very much based on patronage, back-room deals and cronyism”. It was not an ideal way for the incumbent party to start the defence of the seat.who disagrees with that assessment ? not me

thats why we need local candidates to solve local issues , party politics is a form of cronyism and is by its intrinsic nature corrupt , i can refer you to George Carlin the US comedian on why he never bothers voting , sadly local politicians are only in it for the expenses and the pseudo prestige oif beinga  bumptious councillor

There was no by-election 'yesterday' or any time this month. The one you are getting confused with took place in Hobbayne on 16 September. Whatever views Mr Cox and others may have had on Labour being a toxic brand they received over half the votes in a ward that the Conservatives have won in the past. This was only slightly down on May 2018 result and better than the share in the London Assembly and Mayoral vote. The mayoral elections suggested that Labour was poised to make further gains from an already dominant position across London. That was when the government was riding relatively high in the opinion polls so, unless something changes drastically soon, there is every chance that Labour may actually increase the number of seats it holds next May. Whether you like it or not, a large proportion of people vote in local elections based on national issue. The suggestion that Keir Starmer prevented the prosecution of Jimmy Savile is untrue. Ealing Council took a very aggressive attitude to the national referendum result , immediately announcing their decision to ignore it and pandering to the vote banks they cultivate , as such it is impossible to unlike the national political scene with what is happening in our degenerate borough , however in general i agree with you that we should focus on whats happening in Ealing although the twenty people on this forum are unlikely to make a hoots worth of difference

Corbyn lost the working class vote when he refused to respect the Brexit referendum result , i do not believe in guilt by assocation , I am no fan of Corbyn but Keir Starmer is much worse , he even helped Sir Jimmy Savile escape justice ( although they tried to cover it up via various excuses) the only reason Starmer is the 'leader; is because they changed the rules , not that it matters to me as i dont vote because there is no point , our entire system and ALL the major politcal parties are corrupt save perhaps a few independents
