I hope the lousy council have the weighbridge repaired at our only site left in Ealing as they will be missing out on lots of lovely money to spend on nothing as usual.

That's brilliant, thank you. Are they new? I phoned up to ask them a while back as I'm not the one who does the shopping. They said they hadn't! No point asking my shopper. :)

> they do not have a plastic carrier/plastic bag recycling facilityThe Waitrose West Ealing store has two bin containers for recycling carrier bags etc. just outside the entrance. They are not large but I have never had a problem with them being full.

It was disappointing that the recycling hosted by Waitrose in West Ealing was removed. I imagine that it was abused like many outside recycling banks are.If you live in a flat and don't have any recycling facilities then you should contact your Council.Waitrose told me that although they have a battery recycling point there (which they have to by law as they sell more than a certain amount of them) they do not have a plastic carrier/plastic bag recycling facility - which is disappointing. I would have thought it was big enough to have one especially since they sell so much produce in plastic bags themselves. Some of those bags can be used to line (so they say) our food waste boxes but so many others can't. Perhaps we should all ask them. For larger items many shops will take back an item when you buy a replacement. I know that Robert Dyas has notices to this effect. We should look out for more companies doing this. It is part of the Circular Economy that we are moving towards as we leave the Linear Economy of buy-use-chuck and expect the Council (and therefore Council Tax Payers) to pay for the safe disposal. This website gives a lot more info on the Circular Economy:www.wrap.org.uk

We never used to have a kerbside recycling service which we now have and which has increased over the years. We had to go to the dump (renamed decades ago to Household Reuse and Recycling Centres) with larger items. It is called a Household Reuse & Recycling Centre because we only pay in our Council Tax for household waste. The disposal of anything considered Business Waste has to paid for by the Business as it is not included in Business Rates. That is just how it is.
I’ve given up recycling. That’s the Council’s fault!
