Bloody giant plant pots

Just back from Pitshanger Lane where giant plant pots have appeared since Saturday. If they are financed by the local association, fine. If they are paid for by our council taxes when the streets are filthy, drains blocked and the pavements are in a dire state then why?

Can I get back to my original point about these plant pots amongst all the pro and anti cycling posts that should be dealt with on another thread? A woman in the greengrocers reckons they were put there by Ealing council and not the local traders association. If that is true then it shows the usual contempt for the council tax payers that we have become all too used to with the Labour party locally

I thought that we had for many cyclists as they do not recognise the demarcation between carriageway and pathway. In addition, given the predeliction of so me who fantasise about motor vehicles using the pavements then one way think that they had already removed them

VED (car tax, or "road tax" as you like to call it in an attempt to be politically correct on here) is a charge for emitting pollutants and CO2 in public. It's not spent on roads. Some cars that use roads aren't even subject to it!Roads are paid for from income tax and council tax.This must be about the 20th time I've told you this, and you still insist there's something called road tax that pays for roads and means drivers have more entitlement to use them than anybody else.It's absolute tosh what you're saying.

And your point is, Phillipa?Ealing has peddled the affordable housing line for years, but instead of building proper council housing of good quality and to house families in need they are in bed with the developers. Other councils have been building council housing. Ealing got £99million from the Mayor that could have been used in that way. But profits for others is more important. You do know that the waiting list for housing in the borough has increased under this administration?

Roads belong to everybody... We all pay for them through our taxes (council tax income tad etc...) at the moment though it's one type of road user that gets the lions share of the space and that needs to be, er, normalised back to how it should be.

We are all V weary of the boring catchall "It's the Tory Cuts!", same as blaming "They're only implementing Tory Planning Laws" garbage.Ealing Council is perfectly capable of doing exactly what it wants, when it wants.  And it does.Planning Laws can be easily cherry picked and/or ignored to fit your warped ideology, and LBE under Labour are a flagship example of this blatant chicanery.To suggest otherwise is nonsense, and only believed by Labour Lemmings.Maybe we'd have the same chicanery under the Conservatives, maybe even worse, but after Labour's appalling & unceasing destruction of the Borough we desperately need a change next May.

It’s been open season for them in Ealing for years.The council has for years failed to produce the housing projections it has a statutory duty to produce. It means planning applications that are rejected by the planning committee can be overturned on appeal, as has happened with the Manor Road development this week.Needless to say there’s been no acceptance of responsibility by the council. And still they peddle the ‘affordable housing’ trope, despite very little of any new builds being affordable for those who really need it.

I would imagine the cost of these pots would be fairly modest whoever funded them. Wait until the 8 storey 60 flats go up replacing Kent Lodge. The Planning Officer has passed this scheme backed by the Council, albeit by 1 vote. That’s the big issue not a few plant pots.
