Not sure what you mean be self indulgence. You are correct about the deficiencies of Grenfell and they go way back, which is why Towers were beginning to be demolished and not built between 1993 and 2000. Until the newly formed GLA and Mayor of London office came into existence. As for Grenfell, the deficiencies like many, many multi storey blocks go way beyond the cladding. Virtually everything from Emergency and delivery access, to lifts, stairwells window fittings, air circulation, wind vortices, dirt attraction and deposition, costly maintenance, water supply and contamination, heating inefficiencies, sewerage and waste control are still problematic, costly, inefficient and unsolved. Even with luxury private builds.Yet none of this is submissable in Planning applications and gets washed over by building control.A complete moratorium ban on any new hi rise developments not being imposed after Grenfell ( which was not the first, but certainly the worst ) is the biggest crime of all.All this time and still the problems and solutions have yet to fully emerge in the enquiry.
