Utility Point like so many others are afterthought middlemen and Phillipa is right when it comes to utilities being sold off. Then it comes to energy suppliers, profit for profits sake is not the best way.The infrastructure in the UK was state funded - Then sold off. However the demands from the State left many state owned utility owners ( and a few others) unable to invest and falling behind with it's technology deployment. We led in this but failed in being able to utilise what we developed.Even the Post Office had it's legs chained.Whereas overseas state or part state owned utilities were free to invest and acquire.Effectively the UK was a sitting duck for speculative and predatory investors and not regulations to prevent asset stripping. These are policies that were embraced and furthered rather than adjusted by both Blair and Browns Governments. They also pushed many of the initiatives like PPI and opened the gates of Cronyism to all sorts of dodgy deals with people unfit for purpose but well connected to the political and administrative clique. Now we are complete sitting Ducks. In the rush to go Green we have nothing to fall back on. We still have a huge population for the size of this Island and infrastructure that is creaking at the seams in almost every domain. It is starting to exposes the severe limitations of this Island to provide for 60 million plus in food, energy and ultimately employment and standards of living and quality of life.Energy will become unaffordable, schemes like the ULEZ - already outdated destroy the earning ability of the poorest and least resourced, local initiatives are pushing those with less resources and funds into a form of poverty and reducing the scope of incomes and means. Unsuitable homes are restricting things further. The carbon footprint of installing the ULEZ with thousands of cameras cables ducting buildings cooling systems and so on will take 14 years to equate to the emissions it's designed to prevent. Already vehicle emissions are so low that TfL are moving Hybrid and Electric Buses away from ULEZ borders and into the zone to create some sort of difference. That's how desperate they are to find a way to justify an outdated scheme. All for show with no actual substance. Now these things, dismissed as "nonsense" are happening. Wind Power and other means of generating non consumable fuel energy are not reliable and the energy and materials to manufacture are not being covered in their productive life. Everything we eat and do is dependent on energy. We live in a far less toxic and polluted part of the world than it was 30, 40 and 80 years ago. This is completely absent from how people are educated. Instead hysteria is in place.Never mind the dreadful shifting of toxic waste in the stamped for all things Battery/electric. We are simply dumping our pollutants elsewhere. Places in China where nothing at all can live all down to battery production. The same applies in the stampede to propel vehicles by electric means. An electric car has to last well over 20 years to equalise it's manufacturing energy. The battery even longer. But batteries come nowhere near that. The cost way in excess. Yet diesels can run on grow rules from vegetation that can be grown in places where foodstuff vegetation cannot. And be almost zero in toxic emissions.Don't forget that Electric motors do emit carbon and copper vapour - also toxic. The Oil companies now control most of the public charging installations and they are already far more expensive to charge from than from home, which is impossible for most small homes without driveways or garages.Copper is a finite precious metal. at present consumption, it is not sustainable. Electric motor windings will become totally uneconomic and those costs will be passed on. It will render commerce so expensive that it will impact on entire economies. Already China has control of almost all the Copper Market. It will leave future generations unable to counter whatever climate change may cause. Whilst Mankind is dealing with what it does - it all connects. But nature has had huge effects for prolonged periods going back beyond the industrial age. Solar Flares can cause massive weather and geological changed on this whole planet. It comes down to overpopulation. No-one dares tackle that. When was the last time that was mentioned?
