It's surprising that this seemed to drop off the news for such a long time.  They started using this in Europe years ago.  Nicholas Beard drew my attention to it first of all some time ago on this website.You need to check the compatibility of your car again - although as I understand it - if it isn't compatible with this new fuel - it just means that petrol will cost you more rather than having to change your car.Another article:https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57585105

A lot of Ethanol is actually produced from sugar beet waste and residues after processing but, you are right, some comes from normal arable stock. I can only guess that it provides a better source of income to our beleaguered farmers (they are not all like James Dyson) than highly variable prices for 'normal' cops.

Ethanol is a kind of alcohol manufactured from plants, including sugar beet and wheat."I know nothing at all about this, however it seems daft, let alone immoral, to be converting perfectly good food crops into fuel?!!  Where's the cost effective efficiency in that?I am bound to have it wrong so await the inevitable post correcting me.  😊

Ruddy autocorrectIt really is simply a move from 5% E5 petrol to 10% E10 petrol the percentage refers to the percentage of ethanol in the fuel.The higher the ethanol content the lower the emissions. If your car is incompatible then use the premium unleaded fuels which contain lower ethanol content In all cases as ethanol is hydrophilic (it absorbs water) if you don't plan on using your car for an extended period, i.e. more than a month, do not fill it up as you'll get the starting problems with the water absorption of the ethanol.E10 fuel can go 'off' in as little as three months in your car's fuel tank. The car will eventually start but may run rough.
