The park opposite South Ealing tube is full of hidden dog merds. Nestling quietly just out of sight under the strimmed grass. Nice for the school kids from Grange who congregate there to play before and after school.Anyone who has any horticultural knowledge understands that many parks need to be properly managed. That includes cutting grass regularly, because of it gets too long but is walked on it can compact down and actually kill the grass. There are numerous invasive weeds, particularly Japanese knotweed, that are prone to escaping from the unmanaged parks and into domestic gardens. Grange school has an ongoing issue with knotweed, mainly due to the underground line next door, but it’s also in the park there. Treatment requires a programme of pretty nasty chemical weed killer applications. Then, as Raymond points out, there are ticks and other nasties often lurking in the longer grass. I’m not sure anyone wants to contract lymes disease from an afternoon stroll in Walpole or Lammas parks.
