This will surely have an effect on learning. I read that children in private schools are less likely to have their education interrupted than children in state schools.

The lack of tablets and laptops was discussed on the last BBC Any Questions and Any Answers. You will be able to find them to listen again. Very few are being delivered from Govt despite the need. There was an impassioned plea from a Head who desperately needed to get his kids online. The BBC has this website page with information re donations of laptops/phones/tablets:https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5SqHJMTKZx5sYhlltXJvB1Q/give-a-laptop

In terms of recyclability Windows machines are much better. I recently upgraded a seven year old lap top to Windows 10. It works fine. If you have an old lap top on this operating system around it may be suitable for donation.

AFAIK you can also recycle free small electrical items at Curry's PC World. Don't think they have the same scheme as Apple. They don't have to be have been bought from Curry's. Bigger items can be collected when you replace them with one bought there. Check out all other companies that you are buying from and their conditions. There is also Ealing Repair Cafe where there is a post on where you can donate laptops etc and info from the Restart Cafe website. There must be others.https://www.littlelives.org.uk/donate/donate-electronics-free-charity-collection/With regard to laptops etc for schoolchildren - they also need to have internet access which many either don't have or only have limited data:https://www.wired.co.uk/article/how-to-get-free-broadband-homeschooling-coronavirus?

That's right. Also phones now have a integral battery as you know. Recycling, ?????? Its a joke. An apple is goood machine so to me it's a crime to bin especially with the price it is.

Tried to donate our older Apple laptops at work to a few charities for this purpose. They were refused as they cannot be upgraded. Which is true and why we are disposing of them. They only really wanted almost new machines. It's a shame all the machines are in perfectly good condition but can't be updated.Something that Apple and others ought not to be able to do quite so quickly.
