Fireworks exploding till 3am on Sunday morning

Why is this illegal practice able to. Continue beyond 1100pm.Residents and animals suffer from lack of sleep and anxiety in the latter case.What happens now is a continuous barrage beyond Guy Fawkes and Diwali for the whole of November,irresponsible!Imagine the enormous cost involved at a time when the NHS is calling for funds.Beyond angry.      AR

They certainly do. I have a severe form of asthma & my condition worsened following the week of Guy Fawkes. My asthma nurses confirmed that air quality had worsened as a result of the fireworks. I have to keep my windows closed; not good, as I'm shielding

Have to agree. It's yet another, albeit very small example, of the slow, relentless, chipping away erosion of Law & Order.I recommend peeps to read "Freakonomics". The authors did huge research on criminal activity and discovered that there is the same "Incentives/Disincentives" as when choosing a job, buying a product, etc.When crime is "Incentivised" via weak, liberal policing and  weak, liberal sentencing coupled with a marked reluctance to imprison, lo and behold, crime goes up!

I believe it was actually lawful to set fireworks off until 1am on Sunday morning rather than the 11pm on Saturday night stated by the OP.  So it wasn't as bad as stated.

Indeed so, Susan. It just makes the police look indifferent to genuine concerns and the public feel fobbed off by the law makers.It can only breed bad feeling toward police.

The police force hasn't got the time or resources to enforce laws such as these. It makes no sense to pass laws that won't be enforced and brings the law into disrepute.

I'd bet that most of those saying defund the Police have hardly paid any tax themselves and have also been nicked for one thing or another.I often wonder how they get a day off work to demonstrate.

How do you expect a police force labelled as 'institutionally racist' to enforce anything that involves gatherings of people from ethnic minorities?They would rather just let us law abiding citizens suffer the noise and sleeplessness.

I think Mr Roden has a point.If fireworks are required to cease at 11 pm, then there should be enforcement & robust fines to stop them after 11 pm. Yet another example of the lack of enforcement in myriad areas of our existence, which continues to condone the  downward spiral of the quality of life for ordinary, law abiding residents.
