Mik Sabiers - Promoted to his level of incompetence?

For all the stick Mik Sabiers gets it has to be said that he is a diligent hard working councillor. Whether his move in the cabinet shuffle is a sacking or promotion is hard to tell for sure but, God bless him, it is hard to see him not struggling with the housing brief. He was very into transport issues and therefore at least had a grasp of some of the key issues but, unlike Peter Mason, it is hard to see him developing a deep understanding of the challenges the borough currently faces. It looks very much like this is an appointment made on the basis of loyalty rather than talent.

Raymond is right. I don't think principle is involved here. Peter Mason could have stayed on in the housing job given that the software he was flogging was the main means of 'community engagement'. The timing of the no confidence vote provided convenient cover.

Principle? He hid behind others and got rumbled.Apart from that his dodgy contract connections and getting exposed on that the same week probably had more to do with it.Another Robert Jenrick with ambition and fallible to temptation.  Another reason why this closed cabinet system is leading to poor governance.

I don't know but are you really unable to give him some credit for resigning on a point of principle even if it was done belatedly?

Do you really think talent is a pre-requisite for a cabinet position in Ealing?They just do their master’s bidding.Don’t believe me? Then why did Cllr Mason suddenly announce he was going to listen to the concerns of residents living near the Southall gasworks redevelopment when he’d ignored them for years while in an influential cabinet role?
