Ealing Council Extraordinary Meeting Anti-climax

Perhaps not a surprise but it is disappointing nevertheless that no Labour councillors were willing to take a stand on the two main votes at the council meeting last night. I thought some of those in wards made most vulnerable by having LTNs imposed on them would have made some sort of gesture at least. The position of a large number of Labour councillors at the moment is effectively that they don't have confidence in Julian Bell's leadership of the party but do have confidence in him being in charge of the borough.

Yes, remember the names of each & every councillor or mp, the ones who go against the people’s wishes.The ones who ignore letters or emails.Make sure they are kicked out ASAP

Regardless of your political persuasions, we HAVE to boot Labour out at the next Locals.They're a menace and are systematically destroying Ealing Acton.Even their diehard supporters now think this, so you have to wonder just how they manage to slide back in with an increased majority last time?

The whole thing has turned political because it is Political. Although funding and impetus comes from Westminster, it is up to local councils how to to implement things. London Boroughs are unfortunate in that their roads come under TFL and therefore Khan.The Roadblocks methods seem to come from TFL.Note Councils not fitting them in are Conservatives, Hillingdon, Barnet, Havering, Bexley, Bromley. They could clearly see the problems it would cause.But the entire method of forcing them onto a population without any consultation, and the result the second vote of confidence and full Labour support for LTNs a fortnight after a completely different result from the same Councillors can only be political, and clearly aimed against the majority of residents.

As usual the whole thing has been turned political.There is no doubt the imposition of all this is a politically motivated agenda but the reaction to local people having their communities divided, distorted and politicised is what these odious types want.It suits their aspirations and stuff those who disagree or are affected.And there are a heck of a lot of older people and those isolated by age and limitation that are already badly affected.No-one gives a hoot about them, not worth it.But the disgust by local people is not politically slanted in either direction. It is knowing that when wrongdoing is imposed, it's wrong.And this is really wrong, in so many ways.

Local Conservative councillors disapprove and are supporting those who are concerned about the negative effects of LTNs. However the impetus (and financing) is coming from central Government, where Andrew Gilligan is currently 'advising' on transport. He was previously Cycling Commissioner to Mayor Boris. I wouldn't hold out too much hope long term.

I still see the whole thing as a form of gerrymandering. What Bell wants to shove down our throat are large numbers of Massive Tower Blocks with no Parking spaces to turn Ealing into his idea of a European Socialist green Utopia with no cars about. So his council is blocking people in, stifling their movement within their communities, making it impossible to stays living in in certain car reliant middle class areas like Hanwell and Northfields. Living in those areas is like living in the USSR.We know the Conservatives disapprove of the LTNs, but what are the Conservative's views on the Tower Blocks?

I was responding to Rosco, whom I had assumed was being ironic. And yes the people in Acton have battled against the North Acton towers and are mostly exhausted from the continuous bombardment and an ill advised and spineless Planning Committee.

I don't get the impression that there is much opposition to the towers by the A40 in North Acton. There are already tall buildings there and very few people whose homes are impacted by the developments. The developments in South Acton will be a different matter but they may not even have started by the time of the next election.

I heard that too. Whatever you think of Mik Sabiers apparently as a ward councillor he is very diligent as are his colleagues. They have all served the area for quite a long time and it has seen substantial gentrification over the last couple of decades so isn't the guaranteed Labour win that it used to be.

Spineless, self preserving cowards.One difference though now, They are exposed fully to the electorate at large and it's not just those in sacrificial seats who will now be stuffed it will be those in safe seats too.I understand even alternative Labour candidates are like to stand.  As long as they are honest, have integrity and stick to their principles, clearly laid out, I would not care what party they are from.But I won't be holding my breath.

Ha Ha, Local Labour Councillors - such honesty, such honour, such integrity!!Half of them are quite willing to sack ole "Two Houses" in a secret ballot, but when he knows who they are, there's a volte face and a miraculous 100% vote "For" him!!!And to quote Mik Sabiers last night - “So many improvements in Ealng under Julian Bell” !!!!Well, there you have it peeps, Local Labour Councillors we can trust, and a Dear Leader we can be grateful for.  🤣
