Is it the institution or pupils that are not being responsible

Absolutely appalled at the collective behaviour of the current pupils my Old School in the Boston Manor and Northfields areas.Congregating after school in large groups of 16 plus, blocking pavements, and a marked absence of the wearing of masks.And yet we have teachers at some local schools photographing parents dropping off kids in the morning and snitching to councils but not a sign of any ensuring that their pupils exercise self discipline en route home.A far cry from my days at the school when teachers lurked en route to Ealing or Brentford and dished out detentions for being spotted not wearing one's school cap.The emphasis on self discipline, representing your school with dignity seems now to be more important now than then but completely disappointed. No wonder we have such a mess unravelling.

I have no problem with teenagers being rebellious.But not getting strong guidance to be responsible individuals without cheesing them off seems to be lacking.It's funny how no-one dares crack the whip where it needs cracking for fear of their rights but it's ok to impose sneaky fines by stealth and force impositions on older members of society who do make the effort to comply with requests rather than orders.

Ideally the school needs to explain to their 'grown up' pupils that when they're not in school they need to maintain the same safe distance from each other as the rest of us not in the same household, ie two metres wherever possible. I don't think the 'rule of six' applies, as walking from place to place on the pavement isn't a 'social gathering', despite what many school students think.
