Postal Service

I am interested to know people's opinions about Royal Mail. I (in Northolt) went one week without a delivery and only today received mail I would normally have received last Friday (and even then a couple of items are still missing). I realise that the pandemic is having an affect on postal deliveries but has Royal Mail in this part of London really regressed to an approximately weekly delivery service?

Not a chance! I received a large pile this morning. I wait with interest to find out when I shall receive my normal Friday mail.

The posties are out there and working but the volume of mail being sent is way down on normal levels hence the combining of 'walks'. If you have had no mail for a few days there is, of course, the distinct possibility that no-one has written to you!

Seem to have held up fine where I am in W13 albeit some deliveries have been quite a bit later in the day than  normal.Curious really but how does one know whether no delivery to one's particular address means no delivery at all in the street?  With volumes of post generally in decline presumably a common occurrence for non-business users.

No delivery since last Thursday. Absolutely amazing for London especially when I talk to people around the country where deliveries are much more regular.

A friend of ours who writes a lot of letters and depends on using the post has told us that two of her local posties have died from Coronavirus.

Talking to my postie, they are combining 'walks' so that one postie covers the duties of two.
The volume of mail sent has gone through the floor and they are simply not getting the volume of mail needed to justify so many 'walks'.
Worrying times for the 'universal post' if the volumes do not pick up.

I haven't had a Saturday delivery in years, never mind during the present crisis. I get post about twice a week as almost everything is paperless now.

Saturday deliveries were suspended and then returned. 1st and 2nd class is really a farce as when during the suspension a letter was posted on a Friday 1st class it could not be delivered the next day. Price of stamps was not reduced, funny that!!!!

I could have sworn that it was only a month ago that we were told the Post Office were suspending Saturday deliveries nationally. But the last 2 Saturdays I received mail in my postbox. Maybe it was just another of those commands from on high that hasn't yet seeped down to those who do the actual deliveries.

Talking with my Ealing postie, my understanding is that the reduced delivery service is as a result of several factors.  (1) The quantity of letter/envelope post is considerably reduced nationwide, so sorting offices are delaying a few days to build up envelope volumes, to make postie rounds worthwhile.  (2) Staff numbers are reduced because of corona (ill staff, and those 'self-isolating').  (3) The emphasis is on packet/parcel deliveries, using vans.
